Lol, how very true.

Thanks again mate, its much appreciated.

My brand new build, first time Overclocking my PC
Q6600 @ 3.2 (400x8)
2x2 GB G. Skill Ram @ 1000 (4:5 Ratio <- since I'm a newbie, not quite sure what effect RAM ratio has on performance yet)
GA-x38-DQ6 Motherboard
BTF-90 CPU Cooler w/ Tuniq Thermalpaste

Idle 36~40 C
Load 48~52 C

Tested Prime95 for 4 hours stable.

I purchased the BTF90 because I wanted to make sure the cooler would fit inside my case, but after looking at my idle temps, I kinda wish I went for something a little larger, perhaps the Thermalright Ultra 120. Are idle temps that hit 40 C acceptable? Or should I attempt to remount it to get down in temp?

Well I did a little bit more playing with the settings again tonight. I reset all back to auto except the VCore voltage, QDR and DDR settings and it booted perfectly well into Windows @ 3.0GHz.

From there I started to change little increments at a time until I ended up with:

Vcore : 1.3375
FSB : Unlinked
QDR : 1380
DDR : 700
Timings : 5,5,5,18
LDT : 5X.

The machine booted up into Windows quite happily @ 3.11GHz and all was looking good.

So I went back into the bios and saved the profile as it appeared to be fine. I carried on trying to up the setup in small increments but try as I might I couldn't get it to work. Nearly every time it would either get just past the login screen on Windows and reboot or to the Desktop and then reboot.

The worst thing was, when I went back and loaded the profile for 3.11GHz it continued to do the same.

I can't work it out. Any ideas?

By lowering the Vcore voltage a little I can get it into Windows at 3.11GHz and it seems stable for a while. Not long after I run 3DMark though it reboots.

Could this be a sign of not enough voltage going to the NB or CPU maybe?

Normally it's the CPU.

As I said before, back the multiplier off, and see if it becomes stable. If it is stable it is the CPU causing the problem. Otherwise the board is unstable.

ok mines @ 3.2 GHz on a GA-P35-DS3L ver 1.0 BIOS ver F8a 356*9, DDRII-800 @ 888 Mhz, Vcore @ 1.312 volts, DDRII @ 2.1v, and at idle it runs at 35C and 50C at full load :).... what else??? oh yeah i cant post pictures cuz i dont know how 🙁 and also im lazy to do it

Or it's the ram.

Holy hell that must be loud. Am I reading that right? 3412 RPM's?

ha...I had a 12cm Panaflo pushing 127CFM's @ 3000.

You couldn't hear the thing moving at all. You just heard the air flying around like crazy. It let me put my P4 2.8@533 all the way up to about 3.5 stable. It was 38mm thick too.

With an 8x multiplier I can only get to 2.66GHz stable seemingly.

I'm beginning to think that my crappy Nanya Technology ram is not up to it.

I have completed my OC and it ran a little hotter than expected at 3.8GHz so I may have to reseat the HSF to see if that makes any difference otherwise it will the 'nature of the beast' and except that that it runs hot at the high speed.

I am running this 24/7 at 3.6GHz (1.232v CPUz, 1.2375v Bios) during Winter and drop it back to 3.4GHz (Stock Voltage of 1.200v) during Summer. So he it is.

Yep, its great, even at 3.8GHz it is 1.376v, but it runs quite HOT in the mid 70'sC using Small FFT, so this is a negative , but anything under 3.7GHz is sweet.

I usually run at 3.6 but i switched to 3.2ghz to reply to this post real quick..

Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DS3P Rev 1.0

(primed before for 12 hours) the temps i posted were Dual P95 for about 15 mins

@ 3.6ghz tack on 10C to the load temps idle is about the same

let me know what you guys think my voltages are LOW im not bull #@#$#@ing. at all

Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR
Multiplier = 8
FSB = 400
I tested 6x400 with all settings at stock to see if I had an fsb wall first and it ran stable for a while. So I jumped up to 8x400.

All voltages set at stock except memory and CPU.

Memory = 1.82v (5,5,5,15)
CPU = 1.4v
Vdrop at 100% all cores = 1.328v

No load temp = 38-39c
Full load on Prime = highest temp so far has been 63c but it goes down to 60c

I am almost completely new to overclocking and just spent some time bumping up CPU voltage a bit at a time to find something stable. Prime is still churning along nice and stable for about an hour and a half now.

There is a setting in the BIOS to over-ride vdrop, not certain if I should...

I am currently rendering using 3ds MAX 2009 and Vray. I have rendered for 12 hours using the following. My rendering times have went from 49 min. per frame to 39 min by OC the CPU to 3.1ghz. I need to render about 2000 frames a week and dont have the budget to buy any upgrades. I am trying to get the Most out of what I got.

q6600@3.1GHZ
Running the P5N-E SLI board
Stock CPU Cooler and side case Exit Tube
that lines up perfectly with CPU fan.
Buffalo Select Ram PC2 6400 total 3GB
2X 120mm case fans
A 80MM fan I attached to the
Alluminum Chipset Heat Sink

I set the Vcore to 1.392 after experimenting
VID @ full load is mostly constant at 1.296
Auto on the NB. Auto on most settings.
I set Ram timmings to auto except iras to 18
It shows in CPU-Z as 5,5,5,18 and 2T if I set the Iras to auto
it wil come up as 30 instead of 18 in CPU-Z
I am using 345/690 FSB and 1280 speeds.
TEMPS are 60c to 66c on constant 100 percent Load for 12 hours.
It did hit 70c for one slight moment.
It dont seem to like 700 or 800 FSB when OCing past 3.1ghz.

I had almost no luck getting to wherer I am until
I set the Bios version from 1101 back to 0608.
Then I had some success. I tried 700 and 1400 to get to 3.15
but it was not stable. WHAT can I do to
get to 3.2ghz and run smooth? What is my next step?
