misleading title much?he says its the (disruptive) technology that would get everyone to rethink thingsthe way the title puts it is more to the effect that he said its a bad technology - the complete opposite as to what he actually said
You said exactly what I was thinking when I got to that sentence. Mantle seems very interesting - if they start getting the drivers right then we can only expect good things. I'm not a fanboi of either camp - I want them to out-do each other in every way possible - more for us to chose from, and that's always a good thing! :)

It is the same thing as last year. Draw call overhead was discussed in 2013 as well (instancing, pooling vertex and index buffers, etc.). It was mostly about DX 11 effects, though.

Actually, Microsoft has planned to use console DirectX on desktop for a long time (at least since the Xbox One announcement). The console DirectX is a much closer-to-the-metal API than regular DirectX and Xbox One specifically implements a superset of D3D 11.2 functionality - so that is what's coming.
But I am sure more competition with Mantle can only influence DirectX and OpenGL positively.

I just found this :- www.dsogaming.com/news/directx-opengl-catching-up-with-mantle-will-offer-low-level-access-to-reduce-draw-overhead/#more-62436

No mention of console DX though.

If you want to be better informed about stuff concerning application development (games, Modern UI, ...), register with Microsoft as a developer (not that that's going to tell you much if you are not a dev, but...).

Just found this via bing in like 3s (Direct3D Xbox One) - first result: http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/appbuilder/archive/2013/10/14/raising-the-bar-with-direct3d.aspx

By the way the articles you have linked are just copy-pasted descriptions of GDC schedule with some speculations added for good measure...

Although poking the dragon into life may have sounded the death knell for Mantle as DX works on all cards not just the GCN ones meaning that AMD spent all that money and PR time on Mantle just to see it swept aside.

Worth it. Another commenter mentioned that AMD has mentioned they started Mantle to get the ball rollin' (although I haven't heard this myself, yet google 1Gb fiber offerings come to mind) and would definitely be worth whatever they had to invest to get it adopted if it means getting everything updated to take advantage of modern technology. I'll still be interested to see if Mantle will still have any use after its all released with a 3 way performance benchmark, if/when possible. So very glad to see all 3 teams get involved, this will be great for the consumer.

Just in case you try to accuse me of slagging off your precious Mantle, here is quote from a Mod on an AMD biased forum.

I can tell you what it isn't: spending millions on Mantle development with the intention of encouraging DX/OGL to make it even more irrelevant than it is now.

If their intention was to simply reduce CPU overhead to encourage Microsoft, they're now out of pocket for millions while their competitors benefit for free. You'd have to be an absolute moron to run a business like that.

...okay... so I'm not sure where you came away with it being MY precious Mantle, or why that post would have anything relevant as its another mods opinion, apparently to stave off me accusing you? It's not some official information regarding a product...but okay... regardless of Mantles future, the fact that now OpenGL and D3D will have likeness to a low level API is phenomenal.

Also regarding to Microsoft's new API:
We’ve spoken to several sources with additional information on the topic who have told us that Microsoft’s interest in developing a new API is a recent phenomenon, and that the new DirectX (likely DirectX 12) will substantially duplicate the capabilities of AMD’s Mantle. The two APIs won’t be identical — Microsoft is doing its own implementation — but the end result, for consumers, should be the same: lower CPU overhead and better scaling in modern titles.
http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/177407-microsoft-hints-that-directx-12-will-imitate-and-destroy-amds-mantle

From amd's mouth, from the same article:
AMD has released an official statement on the matter, saying:

"Yesterday several articles were published that reported that DirectX and OpenGL are being extended to include closer-to-metal functionality and reduced CPU overhead. AMD supports and celebrates a direction for game development that is aligned with AMD’s vision of lower-level, ‘closer to the metal’ graphics APIs for PC gaming. While industry experts expect this to take some time, developers can immediately leverage efficient API design using Mantle, and AMD is very excited to share the future of our own API with developers at this year’s Game Developers Conference."

As you can see the representative does not mention that Mantle will live on forever, or even be a better option then the updated OpenGL or D3D but that its readily available to use until the OpenGL/D3D api's are finished updating.

You are the one who accused me of "bashing Mantle since its release and designating a "POS". remember? Why would you have done that if it wasn't somehow precious to you? Or is it that you just can't handle the fact that not everyone on planet Earth shares your opinion of Mantle?

Oh, you mean the thread that you started bashing Mantle because it had a delayed Beta release by 1 month? That the beta release still had some bugs? I thought we took care of this drama during our private conversation. Why you had to drag it out here with that cute adage of it being my precious, refering to me having the likeness of Smeagol. okie dokie, I see you're really backing your war against Trolling instead of just having a discussion.

What are my opinions of mantle?

So questioning delays is "bashing"? Really? Unlike you I'm not arrogant enough to say what other peoples opinions are unless they have been expressed and it's safe to say that you opinions were quite clearly expressed.

You did not question anything. You regarded it all as that of the finished product. I perceived it more like trolling then engaging in a discussion.

How so?

I provided my proof in the PM. You can reference it there as this is public forum space and shouldn't be used for defense against your interpreted attacks, IMHO. You are the one that has dragged this into other discussions.

And that is your opinion, but opinion does not always mirror fact. I explained myself thoroughly and why I commented the way I did. You consider it ramblings when its exactly what you requested, when you gave no reasoning to blindly bash a product in BETA. This discussion died with that PM and yet here we are. Keep in mind, you are the one that resurrected this from the dead.

Actually you resurrected this by quoting my posts again, I just quoted someone from a different forum so that you couldn't accuse me of "bashing".

You pulled a private conversation into a public thread...
First with your remark about mantle being my "precious". In attempt to associate me with smeagol...

and then here bringing up the dead past.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2030382/oxide-games-amd-mantle-disruptive-technology/page-2.html#12774794

I could just as easily reply without using the quotes, that doesn't make a difference to whats actually going on, however.
