hey guys,

i m using fairly a nice build p.c with core i3 and 4gb corsair ddr3 ram @1333 and a seagate baracuda 250gb hard disk. i have windows 8.1 pro.

My problems are:

1. a constant disk type of icon appears right above the cursor.
2. my computer takes a lot of time to boot up. even after having a completely tuned windows 8.1
3. its running normally even when playing games. but most of the times when i run a program like advanced system care or uniblue powersuite it takes a decade to load it up. basically it jus takes a lot of time to run the software.
4. sometimes these software works fluently but sometimes they just dont respond. as if i m skipping a particular parameter to not to scan or optimise they jus works on.
5. it keeps loading when i open my computer but works well once i get into a particular drive or partition even in usb.
6. when i right click a particular icon or file/folder anywhere once in 5-10 go's the thing stops responding.

Urgent help needed........ Please help........

Make sure the RAM is running at the proper timings (tightest possible). Make sure in the BIOS to make the HDD the first boot priority, not the CD drive. Take any discs in the computer out. Defrag the HDD. Clean the Registry. Run antivirus and antimalware.

now heres the most important thing im suspecting, disable unwanted programs from your startup. Its one of the tabs in task manager in windows 8. Go through the programs you dont want to start when windows starts, and right click and disable them.

Dear Beezy i didnt get what u wanted to say about the proper timings thing can u please elaborate.

and the booting time is increasing cuz the computer almost freezes at the boot screen. and takes at least 15-20 sec to continue and then boots faster as normally.

i've already ran asc pro and powersuite pro and c cleaner pro.
so u can easily assume that i've cleaned everything. including registry.
and i've also used Auslogics Disk defrag for and had already defragged it.

Check for hdd health too and the timings is the CAS latency for the RAM. Should be an option in BIOS to run it at spec. Spec is the timings suggested by the manufacturer of the RAM, its usually on the ram stick itself on the sticker. Looks like 9-9-9-24 for example

It sounds to me like your OS is causing your issues.
How long has it been since you installed your OS?
Has it always been doing this?

Try checking your task manager for processes running when this happens.
You should also check your event viewer for reoccurring critical events.

bro to honest m not getting it, as m new with the memory thing. but thanx a lot for ur help.
it would b really helpfull if u can post a tutorial link or something.

Thanx :)

settings for the RAM and timings for the RAM can all be found in the manual of your motherboard, use the table of contents (keywords RAM, Memory, Timings, configurations). Tell me the motherboard model you have and ill link you the .pdf version of the manual. Google is also helpful here (thats basically all we do here ;p )

hey ngrego,
m using this os frm last 1 month or so.
i switched to windows 8.1 from windows 7 because same thing happened over there too.
and to b honest the problem vanished for couple of days but came back after a week or so. and is still troubling me
and task manager seems to b normal even when m playing any graphically centered game. from fifa 14 to elders scroll: skyrim. but the cpu and ram are hardly used when m playing those games. else only 2-5% is used from cpu .

This is how my event viewer looks like.

CPU Usage:

RAM Usage:

Disk Usage:

Here as u can see in the background. the window for MY COMPUTER keeps searching. mostly this same green bar keeps loading with all the drives listed. this kind of thing happens rarely.

Thanx For the Help.
Need More :)

but save the timings for later, that not going to "fix" the problems. What might is anti virus and malware scans, use different programs than the ones you already have (if you did this step). Check into the startup programs, its on the task manager (CRTL + ALT + DELETE) and then on the startup tab you should see a big list of programs.

https://www.google.com/search?q=windows+8.1+startup+tab&espv=210&es_sm=122&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=beIpU9PEMeeh2gXU5oE4&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1517&bih=741&dpr=0.9#facrc=_&imgrc=AniSxYU7e8hvTM%253A%3B3dGFwIwasp9nlM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fi.i.cbsi.com%252Fcnwk.1d%252Fi%252Ftim2%252F2014%252F02%252F13%252F02_12_14_TaskManager5_610x555.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fhowto.cnet.com%252F8301-11310_39-57618838-285%252Ffree-startup-manager-beats-windows-8.1s-built-in-tools%252F%3B610%3B555

Enabled is programs that will start when the computer is turned on, if you DONT want them to start until you double click them, disable them by right clicking and setting it so.

also check to see that the computer is giving priority to the programs and not the background processes.

bro i've already disabled all unwanted programs from the startup and i've already checked the programs to get the basic priority too.

and with startup i mean m having the problm when the INTEL logo comes up after the graphic card info. that particular boot screen takes a lot of time to boot up and go ahead.

http://

this is the screen m talking about.

try disabling some things in the boot priority (that would be in the BIOS, you are smart enough to sift through all the BIOS settings and youll know when you see "boot" "priority" "order")

Now that you have entered setup, you will only be using the arrow keys, Enter, and ESC to navigate through the BIOS. Move over to the boot tab by pressing the left or down arrow until you get to the boot tab. Once in the boot section of the BIOS, select Boot priority or boot order or something similar, and when you are in the boot priority, you will see the 4 priorities. The priority should be the floppy, then CD, then HDD group, then networking group or something similar. We are going to change the first priority to HDD group. Go to priority 1 and press enter. A box should pop up displaying the list of hardware to put in the first priority. Select HDD group for the first priority. Go to priority 2 and select CD group, then priority 3 and set it to networking group, and priority 4 select floppy group or you can just disable the fourth priority. Just make sure that the HDD group is in the first priority and that there are no copies of other groups in different priorities. For example, we want to avoid having the HDD group being checked for media that can be booted after anything else. We only want 1 group for 1 priority.

IN MSconfig you should select "NO GUI boot" and make sure the seconds in the box on the right isnt too high like 20 or 30 seconds. Also try going into the advanced settings like in pic 2 and set the cores to 2 instead of 1.

You do have a few errors there but since the os is so new I think that ruling it out could be possible.
How old did you say your hdd is?
I had some issues with my laptop drive and it would do the same thing you're describing. For a long while I was definite that my disk was dying, or the 1.8" sata interface was broken. Turns out it was none of the above, it was actually a driver issue believe it or not! Not the actual hdd driver but the storage controller. I found this out when I installed vista (suggested so for that model, removing the xp I had installed for work purposes). After a few months on vista it is safe to say the problem has disappeared.
Try setting the sata mode to ahci if you haven't already to start. Then go to intel's support site and run the hardware detection option. This will find your current hardware and find any newer drivers that may be available. If it does install it and see how it goes from there.
PS. use ie when you go to Intel it works better than ff or chrome.

If you happened to have a spare hdd laying around you could also try swapping out your system disk to rule out an hdd issue..

i dont knw the exact time because its mine. i was using seagate 1tb hard disk. which was way too good than this.
i've got this frm my frnd since he wasnt using this. m using this harddisk from last 1 year or so and it worked fine in the intial months.

for the intel website thing- i've tried for around 5 times but the page becomes unresponsive each time. what to do?
even when i have java components up to date as i m a BCA student i use IDE's for the coding work. and have installed 2 extensions for chrome as well.

bro it worked for me. and nw its like just 5-10 to boot until the desktop comes up. :)

but after the desktop opens all the other problems are still being the same. 🙁

Before you start tweaking your OS I suggest you check out the status of your HDD first.
A one month old OS shouldn't have that sort of problems so early on.
You could download and run a disk check tool to see if there are any problems with your disk.

Seagate has a free disk checking tool called seatools you could try out. It take a while to complete but it should give you an idea as if there are any problems there. http://www.seagate.com/support/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/story-series/seatools-win-master/

If you know of any other disk tools that can do the same or better then try them out.

As for the Intel support site, I have upgraded drivers from there many times and it does work.
1. Use Internet explorer when you check for drivers, it works better than the others.
2. If you don't have java installed on your PC install before.
3. Click the "Check your system for updtaes" button and wait for the "install plug-in" pop-up.
4. Install the plug-in and press the Check your system button again.

When it completes there will be a list of intel hardware installed on your pc with an indication for any available newer driver for it.

I really think this is a disk related issue.

I do agree with u ngrego,
because of this. my hard disk failed the Short DST test.

And These Are Some Additional Facts or Info for u.

what should i do now to cure it?

Since this problem existed before you installed your new OS, I believe that there should be a problem with your disk. If it were something that could be fixed with a chkdsk it would have stopped failing after installing your new OS, but it didn't.
That may also explain why it was given to you.. 😀

I really think that your best solution is to replace the disk. If you don't want to part with it just yet you could always keep it and use it as a second drive on your system. I wouldn't use it for saving important stuff because it will probably fail at some point in time.

HDD prices have dropped quite a bit so you could probably find a good offer.
Believe me it will same you some piece of mind at the end of the day!

yes i've already tried malware bytes and microsoft defender for the windows 8.
and there were no threat. completely safe and clean

thanx a lot for the help bro :)
mind recommending me one? for around 1 tb within 5000-6000 INR

Beezy Mate U Helped Me A Lot Is There Anything Left to do? any other test or something?
because i think its a HDD issue only.

But Thanx A Lot Mate.

okay thanx mate :)
for being so helpful
would u like recommending one?

Have you considered a SSD for the boot disk? I like the V300 series from kingston, good price. The 840 EVOs from samsung are the best SSDs but theyre pricier. A small one like 40 or 60 GB for the OS and important programs. Then you can run it alongside a traditional disk for games and media storage; 7200 rpm and 320GB or 500GB maybe, you decide.
