P3 Xeon and Normal P3

i currently own 2 P3xeon 550MHZ processors with 2 MB cache from my brother i decided to build a system with this processor since i found the recent price for this processor is extremely high which about $USD4200++ each

before that i would like to know what will be deffrent with other system which use a normal p3 proccesor with 256k cache?? will there any crazy deffrent with the performance?
and is it suitable for me to use this proccesor with the best 3D card like Geforce 2 or ATI Raedeon and SB live snd card playing with the 3D games?

and i heard some of my friends said the double of the processor cache means double the performance and mine one is 8X cache of the normal P3 ,so that means the performance will be 8X of the normal P3 550mhz, IS THAT TRUE??

can anyone recommanded me the best component to build up this system??

Oh yes, 2X of the cache doubles your performance by 2 times. In addition, the fact that it's called P3 Xeon versus P3 means you get another doubling of performance since 2 words always beats 1 word. Finally, you get an additional 1.5X performance as "X" is the 24rd letter of the alphabet while "P" is only the 16th leltter. (24/16 = 1.5)

Ok, I apologize but that was just too hard to resist. Larger caches provide for faster performance when the working dataset exceeds the cache size. (Note the phrase working.) What this means is that for the everyday user, he or she might see 2% faster performance from a Xeon over a standard P3. The area where large caches show significant performance increases is multi-processor servers with more than 2 CPUs. At the 3 CPU level, often a slower clocked system with more cache can outperform a faster clocked one. This performance margin increases geometrically as you add more and more CPUs.

So to truly take advantage of your Xeons, you should buy 2 more and make a Quad SMP system. :)
 
Certain tasks will reek huge benefits while others wil only see modest increases in performance. Just what do you want to do with the system you are going to build? You can make a dam nice server with these but if your looking for a state of the art gaming machine you would be well advised to sell them and build yourself a pimped out 1 gig p3 with a gforce gts. Luckily, resale value of the chips you posses is quite high so you may want to consider this as an option.
Dual CPU's only see there true potential if running programming designed to support them. I guess it all comes down to what you want your new system to be optimized to do and what OS you are going to plan on running.
