I recently built a P4 2.4 ghz FSB800 around an ABIT IS7 865PE chipset motherboard
I was wondering if anyone could suggest BIOS settings to maximize its potential.

I am currently receiving an error message "CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck-CPU Soft Menu"

The current Soft Menu looks something like this:-

CPU Operating Speed 2400(200)
Ext. Clock (CPU/AGP/PCI) 100/66/33mhz
Est New CPU Clock 2.4Ghz
N/B Strp as by CPU

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

heya JC;

Reseat CPU, Reset c-mos, download and install the latest bios update if any.

one or a combination of these things may fix your problem if not, i will help you further.

Hehe, that error is...wrong, and an anoying "feature" of Abit BIOS for a LONG time! Here's the solution:

Go into BIOS, then the Softmenu III menu, and set "CPU Speed Error Hold" to NO!

Guys,

Thanks for your sound advice....problem resolved!

How do the other Bios settings look at present???

Once again, I appreciate your knowledge.

It looks good. This board backs down your memory timing below what it's actually set at however, and the fix for that (to increase memory timings) is to use the 533 N/B stap (as long as it's stable). If that setting destablizes your system, change it back.
