I know that 2.4C GHz has hyperthreading and 800mhz but i was also thinking about the fact that it is less than 667mhz than the 3.06B GHz. I'm planning in getting any these of these maybe in october after intel cuts the price of their p4 cpu. Which of them could be better?

Oh wait a minute there, 3.06Ghz has hyperthreading. So the question will be like these: Which has a better price/performance ratio?

I think without exception that the most powerful model in any manufacturers port folio never offers the best price / performance ratio since you always have to pay a premium for the newest technology. Hence the Geforce 4 Ti4200 held the best Power/$£ crown even though there were better cards out there. Likewise AMD generally have had the best price/power ratio for their chips but now their prices have aligned closer to Intel this is less so now.

So taking all that in to account I would say that the 2.4 would be the best bet now - especially since you can upgrade later and also do some major overclocking (see Toms latest article about 1GHz FSB) but by the time you get your chip the 3.06 chip might have come down in price enough to have taken over the place of the 2.4 - especially if Intel is moving to 3.6 / 3.8 GHz by then.

4.77MHz to 4.0GHz in 10 years. Imagine the space year 2020 :)

Agreed, the 2.4 is the price/performance deal! You can always overclock the sucker, if you really need the power! Save your money for something else!

The difference between theory and practise in practise is greater than the difference between theory and practise in theory.

Ya and if you get 865 chipset you have a nice upgrade path with other 800mhz cpu. The 3.06 is the last P4 rev.B so after that your stuck with the slower 533.Also read the article on THG, you can overclock the 2.4c to 1ghz FSB and be almost as fast as the 3.06...

3.06 isn't so expensive now that 3.2 is out. Of course 2.4 is a better bang for you buck. But if you have the cash go for 3.06.

why are you comparing the 3.06 to a 2.4?

i mean i would think you would be comparing the 2.4 to the 2.6 or 2.8...i think you have to start considering what priceragne you really want your pc to be in...

just barely $1000 dollars for components only.

i want to compare to know which of them is faster.
And when i upgrade, it's always been ram/cpu/mobo, so i don't worry about upgrading just one of the three.

of course the 3.06 will be faster...but you are comparing a high end chip to a mid end chip...compare the 3.06 to a chip in its price range...

The 3.06 would be faster for CPU intensive stuff, but with a FSB 50% greater than a 'B' northwood, and the RAM ALSO 50% faster... would the whole system perform much slower at all? knowing how much the P4 likes bandwidth...

Would try and find some benchmarks but I can't be bothered ATM.

The end is nigh.. (For this post at least)

not exactly? just want to compare the two in performance.
800Mhz vs. 533Mhz fsb

Next time look at the benchmarks then ask the questions...

If you know how to overclock you have no choice than go for the 2.4c. You will most likely be able to run it at 250FSB at 3.0ghz. With some PC4000 you can run 1:1. Memory and CPU at 250FSB. This will definetly beat the 3.06 and be cheaper. This is a system you just can't buy. Only us overclockers can have this kind of performance. These kind of overclocking oportunities don't come around all that often. Thats why I jumped on it. But you are always taking your chances. So go with the 3.0 or 3.2 at 800FSB if you not comfotable O/Cing
