P4 or VIIV which is faster

Hello,
I have 2 computers to combine for the best of each. One XPS and One Dimension 8400.
1.87G Dual Core cache 64K VIIV
P4 3.20 G 16K cache
Do a lot of video editing.
Which is better? The XPS is a mini enclosure and I need to move everything to the 8400 case.

Do you happen to have the XPS model number? Might help knowing the exact CPU for the dual core.

For it though, the dual core would be better if it were a higher speed.

If that 1.87GHz dual core is a netburst CPU, then the P4 at 3.2GHz would probably serve you better. Anyway, I believe the 3.2GHz P4 had L1 Cache at 128.0 Kb and for L2 Cache 512.0 Kb. So yeah, 16K cache sure doesn't sound right. Anyway, yeah, exact model numbers would certainly help in providing you with advice.

Its an XPS 9200C the one with the crappy minil case and laptop CD Drives, etc.

1.87 G Core Duo
64k memory cache
2048 secondary cache
64 bit ready
Not Hyperthreaded

Depending on the P4, a lot of the later ones (like the one i have) has 1MB l2 cache.

The 1.87 Ghz core 2 duo is faster then the Pentium 4 the Pentium 4 uses netburst architecture which is very slow by todays standards. Even with its significantly higher clock speed it is very inefficient using it look at it like having a muscle car you put the biggest most horsepower engine in it but its on cheap tires that cant get traction well thats how the Pentium 4 is it just spins its wheels and creates heat but cant get down the track. The core 2 is much more efficient at processing information so it can do way more per clock cycle. The Pentium 4 would have to be overclocked to like 5 ghz to even be close to the same speed as the core 2.

I have a 3.0Ghz P4 with 2mb L2 cache. However, the cache size is not terribly important. The Core 2 Duo would be much faster. There is really no other information needed to jump to this conclusion. (I'm surprised it took 4 replies for someone to say it.)
