you using 2.6C or 2.4C?

Sucks to be that 2500+, too bad my 2.6 never saw 13x200 first thing it saw was 13x250.

yo, as usual, need a little help on this end!

Abit IC7-G
P4 2.6c
Geil Platinum PC 4000 @ 2.5-4-4-7 (stock timings)

At 1:1, even up at 1.65 vcore and 2.8 vdimm I could not get past 248 FSB! That is...unless I relaxed the timings to 3-4-4-8 and changed the ratio to 5:4. Then it would go further, but that's not what I paid for. So this is a RAM issue, right? If I relax the RAM, I can overclock further, BUT I didn't even get to 250 FSB @ 1:1 stable. It would get into windows and as soon as any benchmark was performed it reset. It didn't matter what voltage vcore was. Nothing changed untill I relaxed the RAM. Should I exhange it for new stuff? Based on what I've learned, it seems my CPU can handle more but my RAM says "no" and since I couldn't get to 250 FSB @ 1:1, I have a valid excuse, right? When my computer was unstable, upon booting, it would freeze during the memory test. Oh, and I'm actually using stock cooling @ 3.2 Ghz and my load temp is only 51 degrees C. It idles around 40 degrees. Both Winbond and MBM 5 agree with each other. I'm usually around 43 degrees in BIOS.

Get Vcore up to 1.7, i think the reason you can't get 250FSB is because the Geil memory loves voltage, their warrenty covers up to 2.95v It could be your cooling, because the 2.6C stock isn't meant to handle anymore than 2.8G, so you could try picking up a better heatsink. Also you flashed your mobo's bios to the newest one right? Abit's known with issues for unable to overclock 1:1.

yeah, but isn't 1.7 BAD for a CPU? I mean, would it make that big a difference between 1.65 and 1.7? Also, for an overclocking legend they're supposed to be, it seems wierd that Abit, of all companies, has a problem with a 1:1 overclock. That aside, the stock fan seems to cool it easily enough, I mean at 3.2 @ load, I'm only running 51 degrees. (case temp never gets above 29) Both MBM 5 and winbond hardware monitor both agree. I'm ordering the MCX4000 Rev. 2 heatsink (on sale for $35 at http://www.sidewindercomputers.com ) and using a Sanyo Denki 92 mm with it. In my other post I say that my fan dies when overclocked. @ stock, it's fine, but once I go over 3.0, my CPU fan just quits unexpectedly after about 10 min but starts right back up if I reboot. I'm gonna run a few different tests to see if it's the fan or the mobo.

So did you date the bios?

So did you update the bios?

sorry, thought I said it earlier. yeah, have the current bios v18.

already using Arctic Silver Ceramique. Again, I don't think it's a temp problem because the CPU never goes above 51 degrees. All I was going to do was switch my CPU fan and case fan 3-pin plugs on my mobo. That way, I can see if it's the fan that's failing, or that the mobo's up to no good...

If the case fan (plugged into CPU fan jack) stops, then I know it's the mobo. If the CPU fan (plugged into case fan jack) stops then I'll know it's the fan.

hmm...well, I should have the new HS mid next week so we'll see what's up then. Thanks guys. I'll let ya know how everything turns out.

You getting the Swiftech 4000? or the Thermalright 947?

Fellas, can i ask a question here also. I couldnt get my ram to pass mem. test, sent it back (might remember me scottchen). Kingstone sent me a matching pair of 512 hyper 3500. Still wont pass a rated timings(2337) but will pass at (3448). For some reason my board dont like it(kingston). This is no matter what my vdimm is.Thinking bout getting new memory, got same board as Scott(Asus P4P800 dlx).Every one is saying OCZ 4000 gold. Is this the one i should get, on there web site it says its designed for the 865,875 chipset.Really wanna get something that works right, dont oc. a lot but want a little if theres others thats better let me know, i know Scott uses this and seems to be working fine with that board. Thanks for your time and Scott thanks for previous times. I really have learned a lot listening to you fellows on the forum. P4C 2.6, P4P800 dlx., 2-512 3500 hyper, os 2000--PS--if i change memory would 2-256 mem. be enought

getting the MCX4000 Rev. 2 and slapping a Sanyo Denki 92mm fan on it. Pushes 56 CFM and it's pretty quiet. Ok, testing with the motherboard and CPU fan are thus:

I switched my power supply fan with the CPU fan on my mobo (since it was the easiest) and low and behold, my PSU fan is going crazy now. It hasn't stopped, but in both MBM 5 and Winbond Hardware Doctor, it's rated anywhere between 0 RPM and 84000 RPM (that's not a typo). So something's up with the board or my PSU. On top of that, I'm getting wierd spikes in my vcore and vdimm in Winbond. Don't know if it's a glitch or what, but my vcore goes anywhere from .49v to 2.77v and my vdimm drops to 1.9 every so often. Ok...as I was typing this, my case and PSU temp sensors just disappeared in both monitoring programs. So I've got wackiness all around. Is this typical overclocking wierdness or do I have faulty equipment somewhere? Mobo? PSU? RAM?

Holy Mary Mother of GOD! Ok, first thing tomorrow I'm heading out and buying a new PSU. I can't even get to 3.0 Ghz now stable. My voltages and fans are going crazy. I had MBM 5 and Winbond both set up for fan failure/shutdown and guess what? it works! I am now back in Windows at stock everything. Any thoughts? Think it's my power supply dying on me? I was just about to say that everything seems fine at stock speeds but wait! my fans are acting up here too!! Aggghhh!!

I don't recommend the OCZ PC4000 gold if you're using P4P800 and not planning to do the Vdimm mod, because OCZ PC4000 gold is covered up to 3.0 vdimm, you can not take advantage of that, so if i were you i'd just save a coupld bucks and get copper version, it covers up to 2.9, but our mobo only reaches 2.85 anyways. If you get the PC4000 copper i got mine up to 266(PC4200) at 2.5-4-4-8 2.85 vdimm of course. Then 275mhz at 3-4-4-8 at 2.85vdimm. I can't wait 'til system memories are using DDR2 memory. I can't wait to see what frequency those things can achieve.

PSU's dying, don't take the risk good choice buy a new quality 1 right away, Enermax, Fortron, Antec, Raidmax whatever, something nice ignore generic. The couple bucks saved is not worth putting your system at risk.

can i get to 250 fsb easy with 4000 copper. If i lap my stock cooler how much do you think i could drop temp., gonna get better cooler but not right now, wife getting mad at me---ha ha

Cant understand why Kingston wouldnt do the job, i got Kingston non hyper x in my A7N8X(333)and it shoots to 3200+ speeds no problem,o well guess its time to buy OCZ again. Thanks for the tip on copper(i was thinkin you had gold), guess i could just get the 4200 hummm a thought.Congrates on the job at the computor store maybe they will let you buy at cost ha ha.

This little store overprices sooo much so i get 35% discount even after that they still make about 5% on the item.

Comeon boss i know DDR2's hot and has higher latencies, but imagine the frequencies those things'll do.
