Now i'm just going to try and save up for Tejas, I think i got enough cash for the NV40/R420, but after that i'll only have about 300 dollars left assuming they cost about 700 dollars.

Funny thing is scott, is that the PSU I have already IS a good one - Antec TruePower 430. Thought I'd have that thing for years....(sigh)....well, off to buy a new one. My local Best Buy is my only option and they only sell Antec, so as much as I fear it, I'll probably pick up another TruePower 430.

Hazaah! (or however you spell it) It's not the power supply!! I just bought a brand spankin' new one and it's doing the EXACT same thing. To further test it, I picked up a UPS and it didn't matter either. Looks like the mobo's going back! Might as well RMA the RAM while I'm at it since they're both from NewEgg. I'd like to pick up the P4P800 delux and some OZC 4000 copper (yeah yeah scott, shaddup) but after paying to ship all this back, I really don't want to drop another $45 on restocking fees...ughh....Hey scott, can you enable PAT on the ol' P4P800? I've read that mobo companies can enable PAT on the ol' Springdales now...

WTF! Now my video card has problems. My system just crashed hardcore with major artifacting before the reboot, and when I got back into windows, it said the drivers caused the system instability. BurnInTest Pro says my video memory is corrupt as well...good thing there's a lifetime warranty on it and I never overclocked it....

You can enable PAT by enabling Memory Acceleration mode.

is that something added in the latest BIOS?

Ok, I set up an RMA for my mobo and RAM. For [-peep-]'s and giggles (since my problems are a mystery) should I RMA my CPU too? Do they test if it's been overclocked at all? I haven't had it long enough to have a "burnt" CPU. I am afraid, however that if my mobo was sending funny voltages and my CPU kept stopping, that there might be a small chance my CPU could have been damaged in the process. So should I RMA it along with the others?

Depends, it's possible that the extra voltages killed it. So you could RMA it if you want to, but they might tell you it still works and send it back to you.

Get the Dual channel kit then it's guranteed to run smoothly in dual channel mode. The EL(copper series) is good enough, that's what i got, and i got it up to 275mhz stable with 2.85vdimm, I think this thing can go a lot higher but you'll have to void warrenty which i personally don't feel like doing.

(sigh)...the more I think about it, the more it pains me. Anyone who wants in on this, go for it!!

Instead of replacing my mobo and ram with the same stuff, should I just swallow my pride (and a few bucks for restocking fees) and just get the Asus P4P800 dlx and the OCZ EL 4000 instead? After seeing scottchen's PCMark 2002 scores, I about sh!t my pants. Hey scott, was the ability to enable PAT on the P4P800 dlx a BIOS update fix?

OK, that's it. I'm returning the G for the P4P800 delux. check out this review http://www17.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030603/865_PAT-12.html (it's halfway through the review, but at the important stuff) and look where the P4P800 and IC7-G are on every benchmark...(sigh)...I'll break even on the price/restocking fee deal, but I've learned my lesson. I'm sure scott's grinning from ear to ear on this one...lol.

well Mike, I'm gonna give the Geil another shot in the P4P800. I don't want to have to pay restocking fees on that if I don't have to. I'm having it replaced with the same stuff. If it doesn't meet spec again, then I'm replacing it with OZC. Hopefully by that time (if I need to) the OZC will be cheaper...heh heh...

Give Geil another shot, who wants to pay the goddamn restocking fee, it's unlikely for you to get bad memory 2 times in a row.

yeah, not only losing, but dead last. bastards. What's cool about this review, is that they compared a press release board and a retail board for the P4P800 dlx. Good to see that so you know they're using "real" parts.

Good to see that so you know they're using "real" parts. Oh hey, here's a stupid question. For SATA drives, do you need a SATA power converter? Or can you use the standard 4-pin? Or do you need both to go into the drive?

I think WD doesn't require the special SATA connector, Seagate and Maxtor does.

but can you only use the adapter, or do you have to use both. My maxtor has both a SATA power in, and a 4-pin power in. I have the abit serillel adapter on my IDE HD, and you need to use a 4-pin, plus have power going into the serillel adapter.
