P4 VS. A64

people i need some advice , im about to get a new custom built computer but not sure wether to get a p4 3.2ghzHT with the MSI NEO 2 865pe OR the athlon 64XP 3400+ with a asus K8v motherboard : whats the better performane to cost ratio and what will be better in the long run.
i play a fair few games but i also play alot of movies and songs and i use photoshop. can a athlon 64 play movies and work programs like photoshop good.
other features include 1GB or ram PC3200
western digital 80gb 7200rpm 8m cache
radeon 9600XT 128mb , (if i can get sumphin better for around the same price suggest something)

OR should i wait until INTEL brings out a 64 bit computer. and am i buying old technology if i buy a pentium 4

Depends on what you want to do with them. Hardware-wise, neither is particularly more future-proof than the other, although you could argue that the A64 could run a 64-bit incarnation of windows when one becomes the 'norm'.

For Gaming, the A64 would be the better system, but the P4 would be better at some other tasks.

What did you plan on using the computer for?
