P4C800-E Deluxe intstall CD Hell

I'm buiding a new system, and everything's together and somewhat
running (still not all installed). But I've run into a problem with
the mobo install cd. My DVD-writer reads the disk, but won't run
anything from it. If I try to run assetup.exe manually, the system
hangs for a while then I get an error message: "d:\Bin\assetup.exe is
not a valid 32-bit application"

But it's not just this file. If I try to open a txt file from the
install CD, I get a similar error.

First I thought it was the DVD-Writer (LD GSA-4082B), but I tested
another cd-rom and a dvd in it, and they both worked.

I might just have a bad install cd, so I tried it on my old PC. Not
surprisingly I got the same system hang then error.

Sounds like a bad CD, right?

So, do I need a new CD, or can I get by with dowloads from ASUS's
site? If so, which ones do I need? If you need system specs to
answer this, I will provide.

Also, if it sounds like the error could be caused by something else
(doesn't seem likely since it's happenend in two systems), please let
me know.

As you have already figured, it's a bad CD.
That's the typical error you get from a corrupted
..exe file. Are there any bad scratches on it?

no scratches, the CD looks to be in great condition.

I'll go with Tim's suggestions and try to copy the contents to the hd
and go from there first. If that doesn't work I'll just grab the
drivers from their site.

If I were you I would download the files you need immediately (e.g. Intel
chipset drivers) from the Asus website and order a replacement CD from your
reseller, because they sold you a bad CD and they have to replace it.

If you want to be sure about the state of the CD, download CDCheck
(Freeware) from this location: http://www.elpros.si/CDCheck/

You will need to download: Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility
V5.02.1003 from the Asus Download Site (some of the drivers found on the
installation CD are older versions anyway):

IF you also need a LAN driver, it can be found there as well and if using
the Promise controller, its driver is found there too.

I'll be driving in to NCIX at lunch to hopefully get a new CD.

Option 1, copy the contents of the CD to your disc drive and try running
manually from there.
and / or
Option 2. download the appropriate drivers from asus.com.tw

Navigate to the downloads page, check your motherboard revision level if
there are more than 1 listed.

You will need motherboard drivers, and a variety of others depending on what
hardware resources you are using.

You can do wihtout the "Extras" asus update (especially). Asus Probe is OK.

CD / DVD read errors seem common enough, but a virus and scumware scan will
not hurt.

If NCIX doesn't have on in stock, I can image my P4C800-E CD for you and
setup a ftpd for a hour or so (you mentioned driving to NCIX, so I
assumed your in BC and network wont be bad)
