P4C800E-Deluxe

My new P4C800E-Deluxe mb won't boot. The display monitor won't come up with
the bios screen.The green led on mb is on.

I have a P4 3.2Ghz with 1Meg L2 cache.
A P4 Spark 7+ Xaser CPU fan.
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Card.
(2) 512Meg Corsair memory.
550 watt Ps. All ordered from Newegg.

Graphics card and memory work ok in another MB.Do I need a special AGP card
for this MB? It say's it is an AGP PRO slot.

What could be the problem? A bad MB or CPU?

If you have this CPU: P4-3.20E GHz (800 FSB, L2 cache:1MB, HT, 90nm) you
need bios vesion (1017) for it to work

Right.
First have to download BIOS update and Flash utility for DOS from other PC.
Create boot diskette to DOS with flas utility & new BIOS on it.
Boot. Save current BIOS.
Load new one ( do not stop the process).
Then reboot : it should now work.

Since he can't see anything on the display, he will have to create a batch
file loaded by autoexec.bat to get the bios updated. Or skillfully type the
command without the display. Either way will work.
Download the 1019 bios.

Thanks for the advice. I was wondering how to proceed without any display
screen on. Do you know how that autoexec.bat file should look for this
operation?
If I can't pull this off I quess I could always put a cheaper P4 into the
slot and then flash the new bios, then swap in my new P4 3.2ghz 1gig L2
cache 800fsb cpu.

I'll try to flash with the .bat file first though and see how it goes.

Check out section 4 of the manual supplied by Asus with your motherboard.
All the info needed is there.

Build a floppy boot disk that contains afudos.exe and the .rom file, along
with the autoexec.bat file The autoexec file will contain only one line
similar to this: afudos /ipc4800e.rom. Make sure there is only one space on
that command line between afudos and /i. Give it at least a minute to do
it's work. When all floppy activity ceases give it another minute, then
reboot. If successful upon reboot your display should fire up. If not then
there may be an error in your autoexec statement or you can try a slower
chip.

Let us know how you make out.

Bingo.

The black screen is not black as in "the video card
doesn't work", it is black as in, the processor is not
computing right now. No amount of shoving floppy diskettes
in the drive is going to fix it, unless you either find
another processor to use temporarily while flashing, or
you can find somebody with an EPROM programmer to flash
the BIOS chip for you.

Paul,
I noticed that no signal is outputing to my monitor from the graphics card.
I have a Sony GDM-500 and it has yellow indicator lights for two inputs; an
HD15, and an BNC. I'm using a regular 15 pin cable(HD15) and it's yellow
light is off plus there's no click on sound on the crt either.

Tonight I will have time to try the ASUS EZ FLASH(page 4-3) to update
bios.First you rename the 1019 bios file P4CED19.ROM toP4C800ED.ROM.THen
copy to a formatted floppy.

During POST hit <ALT> + <F2>, If the correct file is found on the flopppy.
EZ FLASH performs the bios update.Since EZ FLASH is built into the bios
firmware and it is running the show, maybe a cpu or even memory doesn't have
to be installed.

I'll know what works later tonight and check back in.

THe EZ FLASH didn't work. THe floppy drive isn't being accessed by the bios
firmware it seems. Looks like I'll either order a different, cheaper P4 cpu
or request an rma from my e-tailer. Thanks for all the help.

I put in a celeron 1.8ghz and updated the bios to version 1019 successfully.
Then I swapped back in my original P4 3.2 HT 1 meg L2 cache cpu and the same
problem exists. No video comes on. No signal reaches the crt.
Maybe the cpu is bad or this MB doesn't support it.
What is the fastest or near fastest P4's I can get to work in this MB?

Can you try the cpu in another board? It sounds like the cpu is dead if it
will boot with the Celeron but not the 3.2Ghz. According to the Asus site
it does support your cpu.
