P4M800Pro-M & DDR2 RAM Problem

Hello. I have the motherboard in question in this thread, the P4M800Pro-M, a ver 1.0. I am running a P4 3.6 ghtz chip, with a 1 gig stick of DDR 400 Hynix ram HY5DU12422C. It has an 80 gig seagate SATA drive, and an IDE CDRW. This is a barebone's model that I purchased recently, I having provided the ram, CDRW, and SATA drive. (Ram and HD brand new).

I'm getting random reboots, as well as random "kickouts" from IE, and programs not wanting to download/install correctly in Windows. I am running Windows XP Pro (I formatted the HD and installed XP myself). Having read the various posts in the thread, this got me to wondering if there is something faulty with the motherboard, or perhaps there is a jumper setting wrong, or potentially something set wrong in the BIOS?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appriciated, as I am new to the computer hardware scene. Thank you in advance :)

Hi all -- I was thinking on using this mobo for my E4300 when I upgrade to a quad core, and upgrade my P4 2.4Ghz system in the process, but it seems like its wrought with problems. I actually brought it off eBay by accident...it may end up back there. I have the version 2 board. After reading this thread, it seems like its more problematic then version 1. Am I right?

P4M800PRO-M Version 2 PCB Mainboard
INTEL P4 D950
2x 512MB sticks of DDR400 (Exact same for Dual CHannel)
Epower 500 WATT

I have this board aswell, first one I received had an onboard sound card issue (It was detected fine and installed in windows) but no output of any kind from the jack. Received a replacement that one constently randomly reboots, but the audio card works perfectly. I have tested this board with a big fan blasting air on it to figure if it could be a heat issue but it rebooted while I was testing, so no "head issue" there.

I think ECS just pointed out why this board have so many issues, I have purchased a Intel Pentium 4 D950 but it is not compatible with this board, there are 3 versions of the D950 and only the Stepping C1 is compatible and I have the D1 stepping. Anyone tested there board with an actual D950 C1? Please post your processor and stepping information and if it works good with it or the issues you are having with it.

Which stepping is it?

I had this same problem and after 2 days of testing and problem solving the solution finally came to me.

My mobo: p4m800pro-m v2.0
My ram: pny optima ddr2 dual channel memory pack 2x1gb sticks that run at 677, 533, and 400 mhz depending on whatever you want to clock them at using your bios.

My problem: using memtest (from memtest.org) here are the results.

tested stick 1 in slot 1: works
tested stick 2 in slot 1: works
tested stick 1 in slot 2: works
tested stick 2 in slot 2: works
tested stick 1 in slot 1 and stick 2 in slot 2 at same time: >1k errors
tested stick 2 in slot 1 and stick 1 in slot 2 at same time: >1k errors

Solution I found to work:
ok, basically all ecs mobo p4m800pro-m v2.0 have this same problem. two identical sticks of ddr2 ram will cause errors in test 5 of memtest. (from memtest.org)

Step 1: check bios and see if you can change your ram speed under the cpu pnp option (top right). If you can skip to step 4.

Step 2: go to ecsusa.com and find the newest version of the bios for your mobo and download it.

Step 3: follow directions inside of downloaded file or from the ecs website to create a bootdisk then flash your bios to the newest version.

Step 4: Access the Cpu pNp option under your bios and underclock your ram. try 533mhz first then run memtest. if it fails underlock it to 400mhz then run memtest again. If you still fail memtest then proceed to step 5.

Step 5: If you have not upgraded your bios yet, then upgrade it then run step 4 over again. If you have upgraded your bios and it still does not work then start changing the amount of power being supplied to your memory. This option is under cpu pnp as well. I have not had to do this, but I heard that changing it to .15v should do the trick.

If it is still not fixed then my little solution didn't work.

Alternative method: I have heard that if you change the power supplied to the ram instead of underclocking it that sometimes the memtest errors will go away. This did not work for me, but it has worked for others. I am not sure what the settings you should change to are, but i believe .15v is the general consensus I found from other users.

Has anybody figured out the magic 2x1GB DDR2 RAM sticks that will enable this MB to do a full 300mhz FSB OC?

Right now I'm running the ECS P4M800PRo M v.2 stable with FSB OC at 280mhz with an Intel E6600.

I'm running 2x1 GB of Corsair DDR2 533mhz PN: VS1GB533D2.

I've tried many different sticks of RAM for my MB since I bought it last year. The Corsair is the only stable sticks that have worked and allowed a little OC.

Also I flashed my BIOS to the newest one from the ECS USA WEB site. Dated back in May 2007.

The manual for this MB only list 2 types of DDR2 RAM that were tested and recommended to work. I haven't tried them... 😀

The Manual settings may be the way to get this MB to OC to 300 FSB with the right RAM. I don't know how to do that yet.

It's a decent MB. IMO many people have had problems with it because its a tough BIOS/RAID/FLASH BIOS to figure out. The key problem with it is the touchy RAM. It's hit or miss. Very small target too.

in the user's guide it is specified that this board do not support both ....only ddr or ddr2 , but I have the same problems.....it only sees 512 from a unit of 1G (800)

I have a intel duo core celeron DLGA775..working ,but I have trouble in recognizing my newly installed 1 G Kingmax ddr2....it only sees 512 M on 533...Im still fighting with it ...but if it beep at all , try to remove the bios batery and restore to the default setings...I had the same problem when I set it at 600 instead of 533 ...I hope it will be helpfull..

Hi , I have the same MoBo and I recently inserted a new ddr2 1G on 800...the random boot I resolved with increasing the voltage with 0.15 ..but it only reads half of the module value...I will apreciate if ya might tell me how exactly yours behaved and if your 533 worked from first time at full value...or ya had to upgrade Bios...or any idea I should do in order to make it work ...( I noticed that in bios the max is 666 ) , I tried to set manually and even tried all those turbo and ultra settings...I thank ya in advance ..and wait for suggestions .... catalin_yo_vlad@yahoo.com
