P5GD2 Power cut out

I am having problems with this motherboard. It goes through the POST and
then the power cuts out just after the 'scanning IDE drives' message.
Sometimes I hear 'CPU failed due to overclocking', sometime I get 5-10 secs
of the BIOS screen, then it cuts out. If I leave it for 30mins I get the
BIOS screen again before cut out so I think it's got something to do with
thermal sensors etc. I have reset the BIOS, the AMI BIOS screen shows 1024Mb
detected etc, 400w ATX psu, 3.2 Pentium out of sealed box etc. I saw on
Google groups that someone had a similar problem a few months ago. Any
ideas?

How should I populate the memory slots BTW. I have 2 512Mb DDR2 dimms (?)
should I use yellow/yellow or yellow/black? Nothing in the manual.

Have you checked the cpu fan mounting? This board uses the socket 775
and the new fan mounting is not the best in my opinion. It was very
hard for me to get all the pins secure and for them to stay secure.
Until I got the fan properly mounted on my P5P800 I had the same problem.

Thanks very much, that was the problem. If anyone else has the same problem
you should check the fan mounting, the heat sink should be rock solid on the
motherboard. You might need to push down HARD on the last black peg to get
it to lock down, the first 3 are fairly easy. I took the motherboard out of
the case to make 100% sure. Once again thanks, I was thinking about
returning the mobo, getting refunds etc., could have been a nightmare.

I am glad that you were able to fix the problem. I had a lot of problem
getting this to work as I wanted to follow their directions in case of
any problems.
