P5GDC SATA setup question with Windows2000

Folks

I am a new owner of a P5GDC and my goal is to use only one serial hard
drive in the machine.
I therefore started with the CDROM connected to the primary IDE, and the
SATA connected to socket "SATA1".
I naively hoped that I could just pop in the Windows2000 CD and it would
do the necessary formatting of the hard drive.
Well it didn't and so I was reduced to fitting a ATA hard drive into the
Primary IDE and formatting it automatically using the Win2K CD, as usual.
The system is running OK with this primary ATA drive but I don't
understand how to recognize and format the SATA drive, even though the
BIOS recognizes it. The BIOS in this regard is set to the defaults
shown in Section 4.3.5 of the Manual.
I don't think I want a RAID setup, nevertheless I installed the RAID
manager just in case it would help me use a single SATA drive.
So, my questions are:-
"how do I format the SATA drive?"
"Once formatted, how do I make it the boot disk and load Windows 2000
onto it?"

First, you'd want to set the SATA drive as the boot device in the BIOS
(ahead of the other hard drive). Then when you install Windows, you have
to hit F6 when it prompts you whether you need to install 3rd party RAID
or storage drivers, and give it a floppy containing the driver for the
SATA controller (there should be some utility on the motherboard CD to
create one).
