I have a HP p6-2378 and I cannot for the life of me get my GTX 650 Ti to work with it, is there a compatibility issue in the motherboard I'm not thinking of?

Edit: I forgot to add, motherboard is MSI-7778 "Jasmine"

Edit 2: Also learned on my own that my motherboard has a gen 2.0 PCI-E, whereas my card is gen 3.0. I've googled but I cannot determine if they're incompatible, does anyone know?

Have you checked whether there's sufficient power supply?

assuming you currently have a core i3 cpu, 8G DDRIII, DVD-RW, 7200RPM harddrive and a mid-range mother board, you'll need a total of around 350W from the power supply unit to feed your gtx 650 ti along with everything else.

Someone just recently pointed me to this power calculator tool which I find rather helpful for us noobs:
