System:

Asus P9X79
Intel i7-3820 CPU + Hyper 212 EVO
Corsair TX750M PS
Corsair CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 (2X4) (QVL - originally 8X4 - left 2x4 for diagnostics)
Sapphire HD7870 OC single (also tried instead Asus HD7770 Direct CU and different slots
- the same effect)
Intel SSD 330 120 Gb (however also tried to disconnect all drives - no RAID - same effect)
Plextor PX-B940SA BD drive.
Lian Li case.

Problem:
On POST, 1 long, 4 short beeps.
CPU, RAM, Boot device LEDs briefly turn ON and OFF (I assume that all these are OK).
However, VGA_LED turns on and stays ON indicating a problem. No Video.
The final Q-Code is "AE".

Any clue?

P.S. I've built more then a dozen PCs - never had any problems.

Nothing worked. RMAed the mobo 2nd time. Received newer mobo but again 0802 despite a note that 0906 and up is required. Behaviour the same and again flashback is not working! Ordered the BIOS chip from BIOSDepot using most recent non-beta version via eBay.

I apologize for long silence - I was away and also
away from my computer for quite some time.
I needed this break.
When I got back to my computer, I've discovered that
my 2nd RMAed board (3rd!!) was completely dead - it
wouldn't even power up. I've used the most recent BIOS 3305
from BIOS Depot via eBay as the 0802 may not support the 3820 (although Asus claims on its web site that it does). A borrowed working PSU (AX850) didn't help. Finally I've decided to RMA the 3820 explaining to Intel that this is the only common element
in all failures. Actually, I noticed a patch of strange yellow discororation on the bottom of the chip.
I got a new 3820, decided to write off the mobo and get the PRO
version instead (came with 3009!). Also, I found on one of the forums (spent counless hours) that Vengence doesn't play well with X79, but Skill was specifically tested with it.
So, after putting it all together I was pleasantly surprised
that my rig was alive and complaining about missing components!!!
This was quite a learning experience!
In retrospect, is it possible that the 3820 killed the mobo (then I have to apologize to Asus) or vice versa? The 3820 was definitely kicking with the 1st mobo (1 short beep).
Well, it's all academic now.
Thank you for your help and tips.

I got the same problem as you but I have CPU i7 - 3930k. you mean the CPU killing the Mabo? Which motherboard you using now and which mabo would you recommend? You got still same CPU or did you change it as well?
