I have a laptop (MSI GF63 Thin 9SC) with two slots, one slot is plugged with 8GB 2666Mghz(Single Rank) stick.

Is it appropriate to install one 16GB 2666Mghz stick(dual rank).

Mixing Single rank(8GB) with dual rank(16GB) stick will it improve performance or it decreases the performance?

I appreciate any feedback on this.

When performing a ram upgrade on any platform be it a desktop or a laptop, you're advised to upgrade with an identical stick of ram if you want to add ram. Otherwise you're advised to look into a dual channel ram kit.

Short answer, don't mix and match!

So, I can add 16 gb (single rank) with 8gb (single rank) right?
