you should also add test case for thin black lines using stock pen. Huge speed difference. 3 year old laptop intel IGP can draw ~100k lines/sec on VIsta 32 bit, while my new ATI 5750 can barely draw 4.5k lines/sec on Win7 64bit. About 20 times sllower. Simply amazing.

Here goes mine, with a 5870 ATI card running with Aero enabled on Win 7 64 bit. Note the total irregularity of the benchmark, with freshly installed 10.2 Catalyst Drivers, as of February 19, 2010. Note that several others windows were minimized at the time the benchmark was run, if that's supposed to affect anything. My benchmark could be considered "typical use" instead of "going for the golden overclocked prize" of sorts. Note also the DIB buffering test was run with all windows maximized on background, what causes some of the results, to say the least, abysmal. Running a Core i7 920 with 12 freaking gigs of RAM didn´t help any bit, either. I noticed my results are on par with most people, but most of the results are lower, even if within a small range. Note also, it was run from a 1920x1200 desktop. Note blitting and polygons on direct drawing.

The relevance of these scores for cutting edge display might be suggested by the lack of affect superimposition (2.5D) of the benchmark has on the test area on some runs (remember click-through with XP transparency?). Nevertheless, what 4500HD board did they use (see Arc/Ellipse above). Graphics cards still help stretch and primitive rectangle.

Fascinating to learn why my translation of Part 2 took such a long while to show up on the site, and how ATI responded to the feedback and numbers from the German Tom's testers. It's great to see the system working in positive directions for a change, and I'm glad to have been a part of it.

Why is the blitting performance so poor under Win7 with all Radeon HD cards?

The Windows XP drivers are 16 times (!) faster in direct BitBlt operations than the Windows 7 junk they offer now as drivers.

Direct blitting performance affects windowed Direct3D applications reducing their speed (framerate) noticeably.
Just try to run a windowed app e.g. an emulator in Windows 7 32-bit and compare the average uncapped framerate with WinXP SP3.

Now switch to the OpenGL renderer and compare the Direct3D (or DirectDraw) performance with OpenGL. OpenGL is way faster than Direct3D on Windows 7.

But under Windows XP, Direct 3D is even faster - much faster than even OpenGL on Windows 7.

ATI/AMD, please fix your drivers. It's embarrasing that a dinosaur card such as the Radeon 8500 LE beats the snot out of all your Radeon HD series.

I have installed 10.2 hotfix on my 2600HD Pro 512Mb AGP card with Win 7 Ultimate and after some issues got it to work - eventually. However every time I use an Aero theme I get a corrupted display in the Theme areas. Does anyone know if this was better in 10.1

I second that. Open G always seems more stable and practical than any of the "directs"

hello friends, I leave a video where they can see perfectly the delay and 2D speed difference between Windows XP and Windows 7. I simply shot the vertical motion to move the screen in Windows Live Photo Gallery is very visible and the difference between Windows 7 with AERO enabled and Windows XP. Even the Windows 7 Aero disabled has a significant slow.

This also seems to be an issue in Linux. I have Ubuntu Karmic, and even on the lowest graphics settings, my 5870 slows my system down to stutters if I drag a window around. Sad when my nVidia 7900GS performed flawlessly. Can anyone verify this?
