Hi,

So I was gaming on warcraft III on a 8600gt like I have done so for the past 2 years on this computer. All of sudden, background twitched, weird pixels started to poping out, I tried to alt-shift, it took a lot longer than usual, but eventually I managed to do so the desktop looks perfectly normal. When I alt shift back in, the screen went black monitor went into sleep mode, no single, I can still hear the music, I can still select unit via hot key, but the screen wouldn't go back up no matter what I did.

So I rebooted, everything is normal until I run any 3D games, the screen goes black and never come back, but there is music, and I interact with hot keys and the proper sound plays, so the system didn't crash. Movie and everything still works fine as long I don't play 3d games.

Can anyone tell me what happened to my system, is the video card the only component I need to replace?

my spec is:

q6600 2.4ghz, no OC
2x1 gb ram
asus p5k board
evga 8600gt
corsair VX450W

The video card has likely died.

The same has happened to my X1900XT in my current system. I temporary replaced it with a 9600GT that I pulled from my HTPC. Waiting to pickup a HD 5850.

The X1900XT caused PC to immediately crash when game is loaded and while playing videos the PC crashes within 45 minutes.

Time for a new video card for you.
