Password renewal issue

I reside in the UK. I had bought some Premium Bonds years ago and had changed address and phone number; so I had to register for online and phone service. Also, I had mislaid my N&SI number. (Government owned)
I managed to get a new N&SI Number and a temporary password. I checked the website and found that, although it indicated you could change your password online--you couldn't; you had to use their telephone number and make your request. That I did and this is my issue. On ringing the number I went through the security checks and was passed to their Security Department. The person who answered the phone asked for my new password to be given to him. I declined saying that you should give your password to anyone, even someone from security. His reply was "well do you want to proceed or not?" I declined.
The UK National Cyber Security Centre, another Goverment organisation states on their website that end users should not give your password to anyone.
What is your opinion?

Agree: you should not give anyone your password.

The posted Website link is attempting to redirect and failing.

Likely you have been a victim of a fake/fraudulent website.

This matter should be taken up directly with N&SI through other channels.
