[citation][nom]molo9000[/nom]Patents do have a sell by date. That's the whole point of patents. Otherwise they would create indefinite monopolies.I think patent duration is 20 years from the day of the first filing in most countries these days. Way too long for some of the bullshit that can be patented these days.[/citation]

Unfortunately, it seems some patents are renewable, almost indefinitely so. (I would LOVE to be wrong here.)

[citation][nom]f-14[/nom]douglas perry, you are a shameful trolling article writer, you are about as objective as kim il sung and all the other communists spouting communist propaganda.it's only patent trolling if your communist.'descriptions' are not the thing patented, they are just that a brief short summary of something.#8http://morrisjames.files.wordpress [...] -apple.pdfi love how the commie leaves this particular gem out of his article in trying to cite 'patent trolling'[/citation]

It's this simple. If this patent troll had filed lawsuits when they were infringed on, then it wouldn't have been trolling, it would have been protecting your property (despite it being extremely vague property).. Waiting all this time (so that the infringing companies can basically build everything off of it) and filing lawsuits right before your patent expires and it becomes public property is what made this a sterling example of patent trolling. This shows that the troll wanted to wait until other groups had worked very hard on making this very computing world the way it is today and then screwing everyone over.

Patent trolling can be defined several ways. One way is when a company waits for long periods of time for other companies to work with their IP and then succeed with it before suing the hell out of them in order to make easy money without having done much of anything besides litigate. Another way is having patents that define extremely vague things that apply widely in order to screw other companies over. Yet another is buying patents on currently existing products from other companies that allowed other companies to use the IP and then suing those other companies. Yet another is patenting something after another company already has working applications of the technology and then suing them.

It has nothing to do with communism and actually has more in common with capitalism than any other governing system.

Bringing communism into this in such a way is one of the most blatantly stupid and discriminatory things that I've ever heard. I thought that we were beyond that sort of idiocy by the 80s and 90s. Just in case you haven't noticed, capitalism has not worked out too well either. We have a corrupt government allowing corrupt companies to do whatever they want and a legal system so screwed up that all of this shit is often allowed. Sure, sometimes we see justice, but not nearly often enough and when it is seen, it's not wrought severely enough.

Any legal system where someone benefits monetarily from being in public office is bound to fail due to the greed that manifests in human nature. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, even if it isn't absolute power. That is shown time and time again. Our very president has yet to prove that he's even a legal resident of the USA! His birth certificate (that was fought tooth and nail to get) is easily proven false because it has his current name on it despite the fact that Obama claimed to have changed his name to what it is now to better get along with his father. Even legally changing your name doesn't change the name on your birth certificate because it must have the name that you were born with.

Besides, despite there being communist propaganda, that's just it... There's capitalist propaganda too. It's what tells us that communism is bad. The system for which a nation is governed does not define whether or not the nation is a bad nation. The people who govern/control it define whether or not it should be seen as a bad nation. Also, Russia is communist, yet those guys helped us defeat the socialist (not communist) Nazi Germany near the end of World War II. Russia (or was it the Soviet Union back then? I don't remember very well) did originally not help us against Nazi Germany, so that's a point against them, but they did help in the end and were instrumental to Nazi Germany's defeat.
