Hello,
TL;DR: System boots correctly outside of the case, but does not boot inside of the case. I only have the standoff needed for my mobo (Mini ATX) and already checked no additional standoffs/metal parts are behind it. Tried multiple times with same results. Specs below.
Specs
I decided to upgrade my rig this christmas and got a new case and PSU (Also a graphics card, but haven't connected it yet so not relevant to the issue). Being my first time ever making major re-arragements to my PC, I ran into a few problems.
After this failure, I dismantled everything, just connected 24 & 8 pin, power switch outside of case alongside the new PSU and the following happened:
Nothing, same results as first install.
To discard that the Standoffs were faulty I took the ones that came with the new case and replaced them with the ones on my old case, but to no avail. I also removed the 2.5" SSD trays located behind the mobo to check if the screws were making a short. Nothing. Here's a picture of how the case looks without the mobo.
Defeated, I took it apart again and mounted it outside to check if any damage was done with the multiple attempts to make it work. Worked the same as the second install.

First install (inside case, fails)
I connected all that could be connected (24 pin & 8 pin CPU, front panel, fans) with the exception of an old HDD I got. Was missing a few standoffs (At this point I was ignorant of their purpose) but most were in place and none under the mobo, and I/O shield was also not installed (Didn't know it was installed before the mobo). turn the system on, and the following happened:
- Power button turns on, reset button shortly flashes red and then stays off.
- CPU & case fans start spinning.
- OS doesn't boot, there's no display of any kind on screen and peripherals don't connect. Had to turn the PSU off since holding the power button didn't work.
Second install (outside case, works)
After this failure, I dismantled everything, just connected 24 & 8 pin, power switch outside of case alongside the new PSU and the following happened:
- Power button turns on, reset button shortly flashes red and then stays off.
- CPU & case fans start spinning.
- After a few seconds, reset button starts flashing red constantly.
- OS boots, monitor displays image and peripherals work.
Third install (inside case, fails)
In between second and third install I read about Standoffs, so I set the missing standoffs on the case and remove some standoffs set in the ATX holes (Weren't making contact with the mobo, just in case), also installed I/O shield. Thought that this and maybe an error on my part setting the front panel cables was the problem. Connected the same cables than the second install to test under the same conditions.
Final install (outside case, works)
Defeated, I took it apart again and mounted it outside to check if any damage was done with the multiple attempts to make it work. Worked the same as the second install.
So...
I've read multiple threads & forums and the cause is most likely a short with the case, but alas, I can't seem to detect any part that may be connecting the mobo with the case and causing it. My mobo didn't came with a speaker or integrated led so I don't hear any beeps nor see any lights that might indicate a more detailed error when it fails to boot. After 2 days of messing with it (And that damned 24 pin cable, god it's difficult to disconnect) my fingers hurt and my spirit is broken. I'd appreciate any help!
