My main problem is that this has been happening pretty much on and off for a while now, whenever I tend to try and launch Minecraft my computer reaches around 100% CPU usage and then freezes and BSODs. I get the error Clock_Watchdog_Timeout or something like that and I don't know why it's even happening. This has really only happened with MC and it's worked fine before.

Specs:
OS: Windows 10
GPU: Strix 980
CPU: i7-4790k
PSU: Corsair CX-650W
Motherboard: MAXIMUS VII HERO
RAM: 32GB 1600HZ

DMP file : https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ag9btMa_OVV5gQAtmLa3ck7xV55Y?e=tc1Jfn

okay, thats not default. they don't come with cooler master heatsinks.

You should be able to overclock on that but leave it at defaults until we figure out problem.

i see what you mean about being held together by tape - can't say i seen cooler being supported like that before

i'll try and launch it once more with base clock.

Alright I did the driver verifier, and this is what the bsod dump file came back with. Thankfully I'm not in a boot loop.

BugCheck: [SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007E)]
Probably caused by: HIDCLASS.SYS (Process: System)
Uptime: 0 Day(s), 0 Hour(s), 01 Min(s), and 50 Sec(s)

thats not what I was expecting... its not a driver verifer error, though i see it was running

what mouse/keyboard do you have?

things I can see
touchpad
Jul 06 2020ETDSMBus.sysELAN SMBus Touchpad driver (ELAN Microelectronics Corporation)
logitech joystick drivers
Sep 03 2022logi_joy_bus_enum.sysLogitech Joystick driver
Sep 03 2022logi_joy_vir_hid.sysLogitech Joystick driver
Sep 03 2022logi_joy_xlcore.sysLogitech Joystick driver

nothing else that stands out.
HIDCLASS.sys is used by mouse/keyboards. Its part of windows so it shouldn't be the cause as such.

I use a Logitech pro keyboard and the Logitech g502 hero mouse. I followed the steps on driver verifier and clicked all the necessary drivers and just let my pc boot up as normal. eventually it just went bsod. the pc was running slow so I'm pretty sure it was on. I then went and turned it off using verifier /reset in cmd and rebooted and everything seemed fine. that's just the error I got when I thought I was running verifier.

tempted to run memtest as HIDCLASS shouldn't be crashing. or causing BSOD.

I would run it over night as it can take a while
Try running memtest86 on each of your ram sticks, one stick at a time, up to 4 passes. Only error count you want is 0, any higher could be cause of the BSOD. Remove/replace ram sticks with errors. Memtest is created as a bootable USB so that you don’t need windows to run it

my weather for next few days isn't going to be very good so I can't guarantee I be around a lot.

I was looking for a solution that didn't include reinstalling windows but that would possible remove a driver that is to blame, if it is a driver.

I can see that ram being sold as 32gb set so it is probably okay. In that regard. I can see getting ram out with all that tape might be a problem, that and heatsink looks close to some of the sticks.

download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB

boot from installer

follow this guide: https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/how-to-do-a-clean-installation-of-windows-10.3170366/

I would go into windows control panel, device manager, find the menu item to show hidden devices. select it to show all the hidden devices then delete each entry.
(first fix attempt)

debugging: you will want to change the memory dump type to kernel and provide a kernel dump. with the kernel dump you would run the debugger command
!pnptriage
to find out if there is a pending install of a device.
!fltkd.filters
(to look at the filters that are installed)

!hidkd.hidtree
to look at the hid devices

I would also be looking at the USB tree and the usb logs for errors.

assumption is that you have a filter driver that has a bad link to the next driver in the chain.

you can start cmd.exe as an administrator and use the command
fldmc.exe to look at filter drivers installed and to remove suspect filter drivers.

your gameflt.sys driver looks like it has been modified you might remove it and reinstall
gameflt.sys Wed Jun 18 03:26:42 1980 (13AE0662)

this tool might also be useful for finding issues with usb devices:
USB Device Tree Viewer (uwe-sieber.de)

bios is from 2015, you should look for bios updates that fix issues with usb ports. (usb drivers depend on bios version)

Manufacturer ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
Product MAXIMUS VII HERO
BIOS Version 2902
BIOS Starting Address Segment f000
BIOS Release Date 08/27/2015

Hopefully John returns as my tool only reads output of the debugger, I don't actually use the debugger directly.

you can start cmd.exe as an administrator and use the command
fldmc.exe to look at filter drivers installed and to remove suspect filter drivers.
that command doesn't seem to do anything in my pc.

I haven't seen that USB Tree thing myself.

2902 is newest/last Bios on Asus Z97 motherbaords, I know as I had one (Z97 Pro Wifi)

sorry, made a typo. should be fltmc.exe

fltmc.exe
Valid commands:
load Loads a Filter driver
unload Unloads a Filter driver
filters Lists the Filters currently registered in the system
instances Lists the Instances for a Filter or Volume currently
registered in the system
volumes Lists all volumes/RDRs in the system
attach Creates a Filter Instance to a Volume
detach Removes a Filter Instance from a Volume

Use fltmc help [ command ] for help on a specific command

Here is the list of filters on my machine: (fyi)

Filter Name Num Instances Altitude Frame
------------------------------ ------------- ------------ -----
bindflt 1 409800 0
WdFilter 6 328010 0
storqosflt 0 244000 0
wcifs 1 189900 0
CldFlt 0 180451 0
FileCrypt 0 141100 0
luafv 1 135000 0
npsvctrig 1 46000 0

it appears John wants you to remove this filter driver

gameflt.sys Wed Jun 18 03:26:42 1980 (13AE0662)

i would show you a video link if anyone had made one on this

luckily list isn't very long
open cmd with admin access
type fltmc.exe and press enter - you get this:
hYu7VPc.jpg

i think john wants you to type
fltmc unload gameflt.sys

One thing I am not sure about is how you reinstall it. It could be you just load it again? in which case its
fltmc load gameflt.sys
but I don't know if just that is enough to unmodify it.

Might need to wait again. Sorry, all I see about it is, you need to reinstall the driver...

this might not help but its just a way of replacing system files, I not sure it does filter drivers.
right click start button

choose powershell (admin)

copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

You probably need to reload a new driver, not just the same one again. I am just guessing load/reload isn't enough. Probably just loads same one.

its part of gaming services
Reinstall the Gaming Services app on your Windows 10/11 device:

  1. Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.
  2. In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
    get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
  3. In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:
    start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
  4. Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
  5. Restart your device and try to install the game again.
