Hi,

I have been playing games a lot recently and was looking to invest my money in a good/worth the price custom built pc as it seems to be better doing and funner. Also this means the possibility of customization and removal of certain parts in the future. I am not very experienced in this sector and require assistance and suggestions. I have about 900euro/ $1,200/750pounds to spend. I do not mind whether it slightly exceeds my money limit, I am looking for the best build I can get with that money NOT including any monitors/peripherals .etc. I have looked at PCPartPicker and do not have much of a clue where to start, I've looked at videos and have the general idea of what I need - I would prefer Nvidia over ASD. Whatever suggestions and must haves will be a great help! I am not sure what the average price for each component should be and how to balance everything out. Not to forget, I do little work, only microsoft word .etc. I will also be watching bluray films, at the moment I have a DVD drive to use and plan to buy a bluray drive in the future, I don't mind whether it is included in the overall build for the moment. At the moment I play Rust, DayZ, Metro, Bioshock, Borderlands, Skyrim and a whole list of similar games quite similar. I will also be looking to keeping this for 2 years or more and be playing games such Titanfall and possibly other mainstream games.

Solution
if you can stretch the budget a little bit, i'd go with this build:

it has an i5 processor (one of the best for gaming), a 780(also one of the best for gaming), the corsair case, a highly rated psu, an ssd for your operating system and programs and your favorite games, and a hard disc drive for everything else. where i am it comes into $1250, which is a little more than you wanted

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3fQnw

i can probably make it a little less expensive if you want, without sacrificing much gaming performance

Definitely! It will be in awhile as I have important exams I am buying everything after and will be building it then but I'll post pictures for sure! Also you have been a great help! Everyone has, especially you, I don't I can thank you enough for your major input and time used to help me out. I wouldn't understand anything or arrived here without your help man. Thank you soooooo much again!

Also just realised for my birthday I'll be asking for a monitor under 250euro :/ totally forgot, my dad does not have a monitor for me, again not sure what to look for for gaming! Don't want to hassle you too much, just thought I'd get it out the way now :) I like borderless monitors but of course normal ones will do great. If I can get two for that price but still good even better!

no problem, im glad to help :)

pretty much any monitor will do fine, just make sure its 1080p and the lower the response time the better. obviosuly the more expensive monitors will be better. if you need more elaboration, i bet theres many informative threads on what monitor to buy and stuff. when you get the time just look around and read about stuff, you'll learn alot that way

This guy replied to one of my threads I posted to do run over the build see if several people said whether to go for it or not. Wasn't expecting a whole new suggestion. He made his point but the parts are avaible for me, also we've worked on the bitfenix build for a long time now don't think I'm entirely open to sudden change of the whole rig but I thought I should run it by you. Anyway I also showed the techs the bitfenix build and they think it is all good. One other thing is the ram im getting 2x4gb?:

The guy said:
On your budget you should definitely look at an overclock capable build. A lot of those components in your rig are very old and a lot of them are currently not available. I would suggest something like this (using site hrw.it) :

Case: Corsair Carbide 300R - € 73.80
PSU: XFX Pro Edition 650W - € 80.00
Motherboard: Asrock Z87 Extreme 4 - € 134.80
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K - € 229.01
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo - € 36.01
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 2133 MHz 1.5V - € 97.30
HD: Seagate Barracuda ST 1TB - € 46.40
Optical: Lite On Bulk DVD Burner - € 15.70
GPU: Gainward GTX 760 - € 219.91
OS: Windows 8.1 - € 87.23

Total: € 1020.61

with your budget an overclockable build would be possible, but you sacrifice the size of the system. by quite a lot. but also, that build has a 760, where as your smaller build in the other corsair case has a 780. they will both max out games, but the 780 will give you better frames for longer. Also, you dont need 2133 mhz ram, 1600 or 1866 will be fine, and probably less expensive.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure but yeah I'm sticking to this build. By the way I did change the corsair 250D case to the bitfenix prodigy :) Also I'm not sure if the ram is 2x4gb?:

It shows two sticks but if you look down at the specs it says Dimensione RAM: 4gb , direct translation is Dimension RAM: 4gb.

Heres the new thread I posted if you want to go out and check what people are suggesting. Rather than having people say go for the build I'm getting a bunch of entire new build suggestions! The main guy I spoke about before is against some things so yeah check it out if you want.

i see what theyre saying, an overclockable build would be good, but you would spend alot more and have to drop down to a 760 or 770 and lose the small size of you case. and you can upgrade your processor with the h81 motherboard. you can get up to an i7 4770, which is great. the processor you have chosen, the i5 4440, is in the most recent generation of intel processors, with the Haswell architecture, and also performs about the same as the 4670. here's a comparison between the two, i chose the 4670 because it is the non overclockable 4670k,

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4670-vs-Intel-Core-i5-4440

Ah ok. I understand, it's just they are questioning some things., you are like a wizard at this mate! I'm definitely going to stick to this build! Also is the 780 video card meant to be very good?

Ah ok! I can't wait to see what's it's like to play my games with that graphics card! 😀

i know, especially with the 780. you can crank all the settings up. im in the process of saving up some money for a new gpu, im running on an hd4890 which does suprisingly well for 2009. i can run medium on most games

Nice! So you have your own build? Could you post some pics and the specs? I'd love to see it!

well, its sorta my own build. someone i know gave me two old computers from 2008 or 2009 (gateway gt5628s) and they both had upgraded gpus. he said fix them and you can keep one. they both had faulty ram. the person's father/father-in-law who owned them first had a bunch of gpus and stuff but i couldnt get them to fit. the darned hard drive cage. So im in the process of building my system up from there. here are the specs:

cpu: intel core 2 quad q6600: i heard this was an overclocking beast but i have the original intel motherboard and it doesnt allo overclocking
cpu cooler: some coolermaster cooler, its some cone tower design because the gateway case has a air grate on the side. it works well, my temps dont get above 65 Celcius
mobo: the original oem one. nothing special. no colors, no usb 3.0, etc.
ram: it has 2gb ddr2 ram, old stuff. it had 2 2gb sticks too but those were the ones that died.
case: it was the original oem gateway case, but in the process of upgrading i bought a new case first. the fractal design define r4. its awesome.
psu: bfg tech 500 or 550W, the sticker fell of so i dont know. non modular so cable management isn't great.
optical drive: it had an old one connected by a ribbon cable but i bought a new SATA one, and also got a card reader.

so as i said, im in the middle of upgrading it. i first got the case and some simple inexpensive things (in comparison to what i want) to use for now. next up on my list is a new psu and a water cooler for my future cpu. up next is the cpu, mobo, ram, and gpu. im looking to get the amd fx 8350, gigabyte 990fx ud3 or asrock 990fx killer, 2 4gb sticks of ram, and for gpu im not sure. it depends on how much money i have. i'll try and post some pictures tonight, im not doing anything today and thatll give me a reason to clean up everything and make it look good

Nothing in particular! Just wanted to see your build, I like looking at people's various custom builds! Also sounds like it will be good in the end when you have gotten all the parts.

Im the same way, i look on pcpartpicker at peoples builds, especially with the same stuff i want. Im taking some pictures now, i'll upload them as soon as possible. I wana make sure theyre good pictures, it annoys me when theyre all blurry and you cant see anything.

As for my build, i have some ideas to make it look cooler too. Once i get the new psu im gonna sleeve the cables white, and put some white leds in maybe. I wish i bought the windowed version of my case now, i didnt think i was gonna do any color thing a few months ago

Yeah that's the problem with the bitfenix prodigy, I really want to make my pc look good like black case with green lighting and stuff but there's no window :/ So yeah I'm not sure what other case out there on the market shows the insides and is a mini itx

i think there is a version of the bitfenix prodigy with a window, im not sure if they sell it in italy though. search bitfenix prodigy windowed. im about to upload the pictures, i was suprised by how well they looked so i kinda took a bunch. first time ive ever tried taking a nice picture with a nice camera (borrowed from my sister while shes gone....ssshhhh dont tell her)

Looks awesome! You got some great pictures as well! I'm super hype to build mine after exams. Also I mighhhttt be looking to do abit of film editing on my pc, will the specs do at the moment?

for film editing, your gpu will help with rendering stuff out. if possible, a cpu bump may help out. for high end video editing, i7s are generally used. those are way out of budget though, just for the possibility. i looked on amazon.it and saw the 4570 was only a little more expensive than the i5 4440, and ive looked and it performs a little less than 10% faster than the 4440. the difference is 7 euros, im not sure if thats alot but it might be worth the small performance bump. another possibility since you arent overclocking is getting a xeon processor, theyre built for workstations and servers, but are pretty much an i7 but without the integrated graphics. im looking now to see how much they cost, if theres a good one for about the price of the i5 then it might be a good idea to go that route. it wont change anything on your build other than the processor
