Hi all,

I'm trying to build a gaming/editing pc for under £1500 and have stumbled across a site called computerplanet.co.uk that offers a surprisingly cheap deal. My problem, however, is that I am not really any good at knowing what parts to get.

Ii have configured this PC for a really good price, but will it be able to handle gaming at ultra settings and photoshop/3ds max for at least a few years? i know the core processor and gpu should be fine, im just worried about everything else - such as cooling, motherboard and such.

Black ATX Tower Case
Intel i7 8700k
Arctic Cooling Freezer 12
16GB 2666MHz RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080
Cooler Master 700W PSU
Asus PRIME H310M-K
3 TB Seagate

thanks in advance for anyone that can help :)

Solution
You should buy a better cooler and a motherboard with z-370 chipset , maybe a SSD too

Something like this :

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor (£306.00 @ Aria PC)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - R1 Universal 76.0 CFM CPU Cooler (£72.95 @ Overclockers.co.uk)
Motherboard: Asus - ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (£170.39 @ Aria PC)
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory (£154.96 @ More Computers)
Storage: Samsung - 860 Evo 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£87.59 @ Aria PC)

Solution
I have a running pc, but its only an HP Pavillion from around 6 years ago - i dont mind if i havent got the latest spec, i just want an enjoyable experience that is future proof for a few years.

sorry to ask but what are the b450 and 2c4t? I'm really a novice so I really dont know anything beyond the processor and GPU tbh :/ from looking online i have seen that the difference between AMD and Intel is small though so thanks for the tip - ive never used AMD so im a little hesitant

p.s im planning on getting my PC built through someone such as CCL / Pcspecialists, which may have a big effect on price comparisons

Getting either I7 8700k or Ryzen 2700x does not really the bigger issue on building a new PC today.
The more main issue now is the GPU, because the new generation will come very soon.

6 years old PC? hmmm...
BTW, what is the full specs of your rig anyway, of this HP Pavillion from 6 years ago?
Perhaps you can do the new build now and keep your old GPU first until the GTX11xx is available.

Its new motherboard for ryzen, b450 coming soon
2700x has 8 cores 16 thread, (8c16t) while 8700 has 6 cores 12 thread
I am getting disappointed with intel recent cpu generation, with overheating , no coolers, premiun boards for overclocking and expensive

And new gpu from nvidia is coming soon in late august

My current PC is an HP Pavilion HPE h8 - I cant find it online. Got it years back thinking it had enough ram for gaming at 8gb but PC World mis-sold it as the card is actually limited to 1gbs. It's on its last legs tbh, ive had the hard drive replaced already.

atm im looking at a PC on sale from CCL computers with a 1080 and i7 - im not looking to build it myself because some builders offer it cheaper and im a bit hesitant to buy the parts myself in case they don't match up.

surely the new graphics card coming wont affect it too much, would it? i mean the 1080 will still give me over 60fps on most games easily right?

It is not because the current gen cards won't serve you well. It is just
1. The newer cards for the same price should and actually will performa a lot better.
2. After the newer cards are available, the price of the older cards will fall like flies
It is more about trying to get the most of your money.

Waiting is always good but there is another side to this. It is, if you need the PC relatively immediately.

BTW, if you do mainly content creation (editing, rendering, etc.) and gaming is only as bonus, I would try to consider getting Ryzen 7 2700 or 2700x

Oh i see, thanks for explaining :) the only problem is that i have august off so i wanted to make the most of it whilst i had the time off - and with the prices some pc builders are charging i seem to be getting a good deal anyway.

have to say I'm being drawn to AMD though - gaming and modding games are a 50/50 for me, but looking at reviews the framerate with the AMD 2700X is still good.

thank you all for your comments btw, super appreciate it.
