Not sure if this is the correct place for this so let me know I will move it.
My buddy been interested in building a custom pc and wants me to help him out with it. I put together a parts list to go with his 1200ish budget. He plays lots of League , Skyrim/Wow, Minecraft, and steam indie types games not really one to play shooters. So here it is.

Cooler Master Elite 311 Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119246

ASUS GTX660 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121660

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233170

ASRock H97M Pro4 LGA 1150 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157512

Intel Core i5-4690K - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117372

Corsair CX600 (Used by me for a couple weeks) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028&cm_re=corsair_cx600-_-17-139-028-_-Product

Old dvd drive of mine for os install

Windows 7 Home Premium - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416806

Thanks in advanced.

If your budget is $1200, you can do a little better than a i5/gtx660 build.

Note that the case and windows 7 were not on pcpartpicker (newegg, amazon), so I just put in replacements of equal cost.
-If you/your friend isn't going to be overclocking, a 4590 will be just as good (and overclocking won't gain you much anyways.) \
-The ssd is nice, but you could save $60 by skipping it.

Overall, pretty much just upgrading from a gtx 660 to a 970 will nearly double your FPS on ultra settings. If you can afford it, it's a very solid card, and power-efficient, too. However, those aren't the most graphically intensive games. You could save money by going with a R9 270X, or something like that. Best of luck with the build!
