Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ Motherboard

G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB DDR3-2400 Memory

Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM

MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB TWIN FROZR GPU

Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower Case

EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W PSU

TP-Link TL-WDN4800 Wi-Fi Adapter

Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Acer G226HQLBbd 60Hz 21.5" Monitor

around 1000-1300 its strictly gaming so I put alot into a Gup. Would an intel chip make a big change

10-20% speed improvement and you can probably get away with about the same price.

The chips in the same price point would be the Core i3-3220 or Core i3-4370 or for a bit more the Core i5-4460. Are these better ?

If you don't overclock, an i5 with a h81/b81 (ASUS/Gigabyte) motherboard costs similarly or even less than a fx-6300 with a 990fx board. Also non-K i5 doesn require a 3rd-party cooler. The better power effeciency of i5 can save you a lot of $$ on electricity in a long run (how much depends on your rate).
For pure gaming purpose, intel i5 is the winner. (Feb 2015)
