Does anyone know anything about pc-chips motherboards, I was wondering about the m-807. It seems this may be a good canidate for overclocking since the bios supports fsb and multiplier settings.. Thanks...

Don't you DARE to buy a PC-CHIPS mainboard, they have NO TECH SUPPORT AT ALL. I am the owner of a Socket 7 PC-CHIPS M-530 and the only way to get support is researching for users with similar problems. There are pages which provide support but they unofficial. Search in your browser for 'Pcchips lottery'.

I bought one by mistake once. (I had a credit note for a shop that was closing down, turned up as they were ripping the carpet out and said "What'll you give me for this?") It was absolutely dreadful - set at 100MHz FSB it actually ran at 89.89 MHz, it would crash if you enabled the L2 Cache, never ran for more than an hour or so. You could just look at it and it would crash (no joke - I wasn't within 10 feet and it wasn't doing anything - just sitting there.)

DON'T BUY ONE!

I bought a M598 a while ago cause it was cheap. Although I can not give it a stellar review, it has been a very servicable motherboard. When I recently got a K63+450 I was able to get a bois update that enabled the new processor to work. Also let me OC it to 600. The onboard sound was OK and the onboard video of course sucked. I didnt mind to much cause I use old Voodoo 2's in SLI for the video. If you want to save a few bucks and know you are getting a a part that is no where near close to top of the line, then you might like one. It had better be REAL cheap. If not, do yourself a favor and spend then extra money on something better (Abit, Asus,... anything).

ditto on what Hazyblue said. I had the exact same experience, except I didn't have room for dual Voodoos because of my heat sink...
also, the memory bandwidth is horrendous...

Ditto to all the good and bad above. Its good for a small slow system (If it boots) but forget high perf.

well, Made the mistake of buying one of these critters. Had random crashes in 3d stuff and memory bandwidth stinks. Got ticked off and bought an asus a7v! Super board and it does everything that I want overclocked and very stable! Thanks for the input all....

Here's something nice for all of you pcchips owners out there.
I got lucky one day and spoke to a real person. Yeah I know it hard to believe. But for support for all pcchips and Alton mobos you need to goto WWW.pcware.com . All of the boards are listed with pictures, manuals, driver, bios everything. Another place you would be surprised to find your boards is at www.amptron.com. I think they are the actual manufacturer. The numbers are slightly different eg. my pcchips M748mr is listed PII-3748M.
The sound systems a cmedia.com fir the pci sound pro.
By the way the M748mr works fine with a 800mhz PIII even though the manual says 500.
