Hello everyone,

this community helped me a year ago with a smiliar problem. Hopefully it will work so well again. Thanks in advance to anybody who takes the time to help.

My problem:
PC crashes, mainly during graphic heavy games. First frames per second start dropping rapidly in games. (From 80-100 to 1-20). Then stuttering, sound stutters too, picture freeze, crash. Sometimes the PC seems to gather himself and I can continue playing. But then the PC often crashes when I exit the game and return to Desktop. (Blackscreen) Seems to happen more often nowadays. Sometimes after a crash I cant even restart properly, just black screen, fans go crazy, beeps coming from pc. After couple of minutes I can start the PC normaly.
When not playing video games the crashes dont seem to happen. Replaced the PSU about a year ago, the old (cheap, pre-installed) caused trouble and random restarts of the system)

Already tried updating/deinstalling graphic drivers.

My system consists of:
  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
  • TUF B450-PLUS GAMING Motherboard
  • GeForce RTX 2070S, 8GB GDDR6 / Palit
  • 16 GB Ram (RAM DDR4-RAM - 8GB 3000MHz G.Skill Aegis x2)
  • SPM SSD M.2 PCIe 2280 - 1000GB Intel 660p
  • Corsair TX650M

Open to any ideas. Will gladly answer all questions.
Thanks again in advance.
Cheers

1) Were you having similar problems BEFORE replacing the PSU or did they start sometime afterward?
2) Pull a stick of memory (leave the stick in furthest from the CPU) and see if the issue continues. If it doesn't , swap the sticks and try again. Rinse and repeat with the other stick in each of the slots being used for the dual channel configuration. This will help eliminate memory as possibly being a source of the issue.
3) Have you OCed your system at all? If so, revert any changes and test without the OCing.

Thank a lot. Appreciate it.
The problems befor changing the PSU were random restarts. those got fixed with the change of the PSU. (Recommendation from this forum) Everything worked fine for quiet some time until recently.
I will try the memory switching and report with the results!
I have not overclocked anything on my system.

Quick update, have removed the first stick of memory this morning and so far had no crashes or problems. not completely sure it is just luck but it is looking good. If i keep having no problems today I will switch the one installed right now with the one i have removed (so keeping only one installed) and see how it goes. Il report back, but thanks already for the help!

Morning my friend,
Have you checked if your CPU is overheating? Try monitoring your hardware component using a free monitoring software like https://openhardwaremonitor.org/

Maybe your cooling system/fan are defect and cause the processeur to overheat.

I've had a similar problem with my set-up last month, same symptoms and it ended up with the water cooling system who was defect.

Good luck !

Alright:
  • so far no crashes with memory stick #1 only. Tested it in Slot 2 and Slot 4 (those were the slots used befor) first thought: stick #2 has to be damaged
  • so far 2 crashes with memory stick #2 only. Right now just tested it in Slot 4. But crashes seem to appear less frequent and more during loading times of games instead of mostly during games. will test ist also in Slot 2. But so far it looks like something is wrong with stick #2 even though the general performance seems also better, if not perfect using only stick #2
Thanks already for the help, definetley seems like it has something to do with the memory. Will mark as solved but still happy to hear further suggestions. Like what would you do next? exchange the damaged one? Already checked: pairs of 2 seems cheaper then bying just one. Would I benefit from using 2 in dual channel and one extra?

Cheers and all the best

I dont think the fans has something to do with it, seems to be the memory, but thanks for your answer anyway! Cheers

As far as next steps, it really depends on how you want to proceed. If you can get a replacement of the same type, then go that route. If you've been wanting to update/upgrade, replace the pair. You don't really want to have just a 3rd stick unless you are going to do 4 sticks of the same and run them both in dual channel. The only time a 3rd stick alone is beneficial is when you can run Tri-Channel.

perfect, thanks again for the insight. will probably go for an upgrade of my ram. so changing both for 32GB (16+16).
Tried to mark the thread as solved but somehow cant, can I change that? Would like to give you credit.
Cheers
