Question New Build - 1 of 6 SSD's seen by the BIOS that is all - What is going on?

I have been replacing parts in my build every few years. I just picked up a ASUS PRIME Z790-V AX motherboard. I updated the BIOS the latest availabel version 1802 dated 10/11/2024. I have several SSS'd older and new ones including WD Blue SA510, Crucial BX500, and older SSD"s being two Samsung 870 QVO-1tb, and 3 older SSD's by Sandisk, Fijitsu and a Toshiba THNSNH256GBST (see photos.)

My machine posts to BIOS, the Asus BIOS will ONLY show the THNSNH256GBST SSD which was the SSD I was last using and has Windows 11 installed. I am using a new cable that came with the new motherboard and the same power cable each time however NONE of the other SSD's will show except the THNSNH256GBST SSD? I suspect this SSD is having issues as it failed a week ago, I reinstalled Windows 11 again and it failed a week later (this was from a different Motherboard, DDR4 memory.) The WIndows 11 install does not see the drive, nor does a windows 10 install which I tried.

I have hooked up some of the SSD's to my Windows 11 laptop via a drive adapter and it can see at lest the drives I tried including the new drives and the Samsung drives.

I called ASUS, the tech simply advised that I Enable CSM (Compatibility Support Module) which I had tried enable and disabled. The tech tells me "that should work." He puts me on hold to "check his other resources" then the phone hangs up.

Does anyone have any ideas, I have tried everthing I know and can find out there? My goal is to probably use the WD Blue SA510 drive for the OS and the two Samsung TB
s for extra storage.

One of your screenshots has the BIOS time set to 00:00, do you need to input your time at every cold boot?

On this image, I am showing the TOSHIBA on the bottom right, this is the only SSD out of 6 that wiill show up but and was the last SSD I had Windows 11 on. The other hard drives are empty or new.

That is weird, but looking at it now it is correct. Perhaps the time had not set when I took the photo.

Clear CMOS by disconnecting from the wall and display, removing the CMOS battery, press and hold down the power button for 30secs, then replace the CMOS battery with a fresh cell after 30mins.

How old is the PSU in your build? Just an FYI, since you've replaced the motherboard, you will need to reinstall the OS, with only the drive you wish to install the OS onto while everything else is disconnected. Once you've installed the OS in offline mode, manually installed all relevant drivers in an elevated command, then hook up to the www to update your OS. Power down then see if hooking up each drive one by one to the system and powering up to OS with each added drive, assuming none of the other drives have OS partitions on them.

That is Boot priority. It doesn't show all available drives.

Switch to Advanced mode and find screen with sata devices.
It may be necessary to turn off Fast Boot.
Make sure, sata controller is set to AHCI mode.

BTW - You have single ram module. Single module should be placed in slot A2.
Dual channel mode is unavailable, when using single module.
This impacts ram performance negatively.

"Boot Priorit" in BIOS, Yes but I am only trying one SSD at a time. ONLY the Toshiba will show in the Boot Prioity. If I take the Toshibar drive out and install any of the other drives they do not show up.

Advanced Mode: I disabled Fast Boot, I found this video which is suppose to walk me through locating AHCI mode but my PCH Storage Configuration is greyed out.

RAM: I have two modules but only installed one for now but thanks, I did nove the module to A2. Where should the second module be installed?

A drive will only appear in 'Boot Priority' if there is something on it to boot from. AN OS.
A blank drive will not appear there.

I will try the CMOS Steps you mentioned.

PSU I think is from 2021.

I cannot get the OS installed as Window's won't see any drives but the Toshiba drive, I have been only installing one SSD at a time using the same cables and its the only one Windows will recognize. Is there a format I should do on the drives using another machine and drive adapter? I have tried to format some of them with another machine.

When the windows instatllation media gets to the part where it is ready fo me to select a drive to install Windowws on, there are no drives present at all unless I use the failing Toshiba drive.

When you install an OS, have only ONE drive connected.
Reconnect the others later.

I cannot stress this strongly enough.
Only One Drive.


And....start with a fresh OS install, in this system.
Not something that was installed on some other system.
