Question PC does not start after shorting cpu power pins

Hi,

I have an issue where my PC won’t start when I press the power button. However when I tried shorting the power pins on my motherboard even then my PC won’t start.

I thought that my motherboard was broken and I was about to call a repair guy, suddenly my PC booted. I did a load test thinking that my PSU might be at fault but my PC didn’t crash. However the same boot up issue resurfaced, neither will my PC boot when I press the power button nor will it boot when I shorted the power pins. But randomly it boots up. I have noticed that only after I press the power button, after a minute or two, randomly my PC boots up, sometimes it does and other times it does not.

Please help me identify the issue.

PSU:
Corsair CX 500, 5 yrs old
Motherboard:
ASUS Z97a, 5 yrs old
Chipset:
Intel i5 4440, 5 yrs old
GPU:
RTX 2070 super, 1.5 yrs old
HDD:
WD Blue 1 TB
RAM:
8 GB

OS:
Windows 10 Pro

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition?

= = = =

Maybe a loose connection.

Power down, unplug, open the case.

Clean out dust and debris.

Verify by sight and feel that all connectors, cards, RAM, and jumpers are fully and firmly in place.

Thanks for replying, I did everything you suggested, still not booting using both the power switch and shorting the pins.
