Life has presented me with a challenge. Build the best possible gaming PC for under 300USD. I know there have been threads and videos about this before but I feel I'm in a slightly different situation. I already have a graphics card, a monitor, a keyboard, mouse, and windows.

I've picked out parts but I'm not completely satisfied with my choices and would like to go over them to make sure I'm doing the job right.

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840
Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132052
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117374
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA07234S7317&ignorebbr=1

The graphics card I already have is a EVGA Geforce 660ti

My requirements are that I can play most current games on medium-high at 1920x1080 resolution. I'm not sure if this is possible with a build so cheap but if it is and if you guys could give me some suggestions on how to improve this build even further. Thank you :)

Well maybe not things like the Witcher 3, Metro Last Light, or GTA 5 on high. I can barely do that with a much more powerful rig. But more on the level of battlefield 4, call of duty advanced warfare, or borderlands 2 on high? I'm asking because Its a gift for my kid as his first computer and I don't want him to not enjoy it because the graphics are too low. He has an xbox one already so thats my basis of comparison.

The GPU is better than the one in xbox one. I can't say anything about the CPU though, because I am not familiar with the intel pentium performance. There might be some ''bottlenecking''. If you could spend more money and go for the i5-3570(k) or i5-2500(k). They would be optimal. Go for K if you are interested in OC. Again, they propabl would be out of your budget.

The main thing you should understand is that games on his Xbox will always run if you can buy them. On a PC, they may not. I would highly recommend that you don't get that pentium processor. Nearly all games nowadays require more that 2 cores.

So the solution is you either get an i3 or an i5. Or you can go for an fx 6300

That changes the price significantly and then it wouldn't be a $300 build.

I have a 3570k in both my computers and it works well but the g3258 only seems to be slightly less powerful for games for less than half the cost. I don't know how the cores thing will effect anything or if it'll make certain games unplayable. How do i figure something like that out?
