Hi all sorry if I posted this in wrong section. Been having problems with my system for the last few days. The pc will randomly freeze up and I have to press the power button to shut down. The pc runs fine no errors or anything but when I'm browsing the web or playing a game and even doing windows updates the pc will freeze. A couple of times after shutting off the pc it will ask me to re configure my bios because of a Clocking fail error. I have the P8Z68V-LX motherboard and it was set to performance in the bios but after the clocking fail I put it to normal but the pc still freezes. My temps are fine and windows error checking on SSD finds no errors. I was getting this on windows 7 so i changed to windows 10 to see if it still freezes and it froze as soon as i ran windows update on a fresh windows 10 install. Any ideas of what this could be? everything in my system is only 2/3 years old.

Just ran the intel processor diagnostics tool and it passed.

Hello.

Has your system ever been overclocked?

What you can try, go into BIOS. Go into the TOOLS option and in there you should find ASUS O.C Profile. In there you should have a list of profile States. Most will say not installed but in the first slot you man have a setting saved. Load that setting, save and exit. On restart you may get the same error message again, but boot into windows anyway...and hopefully your problem will be over.

If this fixes the problem you may want to look at changing your CMOS battery if it happens again.

Good luck.

Hi, no the system has not been overclocked. Well it has 3 settings on the bios normal, power saver, performance I had it on performance for over 2 years with no problems but because of the clocking fail I changed it back to normal (default) settings. The pc freezes at random times, it froze during windows 10 install and when I ran windows update. All my temps look normall, Intel processor diagnostics tool passed windows check disk found no errors. I have not changed any hardware or software.

Ok, we'll see if the above changes anything, if not, next time it happens, reboot PC and go into event viewer through control panel and see if there's anything in the log that flags up that might indicate what the cause is. Also if the above does not help try to replace the cmos battery and see if that helps.

I have been on default bios settings for 2 days to see if any changes but because the freezes was still happening I wiped my drive and installed windows 10 but the pc froze as soon as I ran windows update on a fresh install. It only freezes a few times a day not constantly. I could be on my pc for 8 hours and it wont freeze then all of a sudden even when on my desktop it will just freeze up. I will get hold of a battery and see what happens.
