Ok, so today I was trying to play gta 5 on steam and with the newest update the game crashed every time story mode would load. When the game would crash my PC would complete freeze and I had to manually turn off my computer. When I turned it back on the screen would stay black even after the loading screen and my k70 would light up and then shut off again. So I had to do a system restore to a couple days ago. So I'm finally in and I notice my PC is acting really weird, it's super slow and bogs down when I right click on anything. So I try to go and enable sli becuase the last thing I did was install the driver and when I click on enable sli it dosnt ask me to shut down some programs like it usually dose and just turns it on but the screen goes black and I have to restart my PC again. sli will not enable itself. I've teied rolling back drivers and reinstalling them too.

ah sorry, im on my laptop till I cant figure out whats going on with it. My motherboard is Asus Maximus Hero IV and Im running Windows 8.1

Okay, have you tried using each card individually with only one plugged in at a time? It's possible one of them died, hence SLI not working.

Also try them both in every PCIE lane you have, it could be a PCIE lane died as well.

Also Virus check? https://www.malwarebytes.org/

And FYI, a system restore only works if there were no problems before the last shutdown or restore point. If you restart a couple times before trying a system restore you're just restoring an already broken system. Assuming that a system restore would have ever fixed the actual problem.

You might have to try and reformat and reinstall windows down the line as well, so is that possible for you?

Ive only tried one card, but not the other, Will probably get to it tonight. If I do a reformat and reinstall of windows will I lose all of my data and game saves?

Yes. But you can back up game saves to like a USB flash drive, and any important documents and pictures, ect. But no programs. That's why I asked if it was an option, sometimes it fixes things, sometimes it doesn't.
