PC Gaming Help!

I can browse the internet perfectly fine, but once I hope onto Call Of Duty 4 or Team Fortress 2 I experience connection issues. I'm using a Netgear router with the netgear usb adapter. The router and my computer are less than a foot apart.
Anyone know why this happens?
