😉

The above prices are not acurrate at all the 5970 is currently priced at 699.99 "Diamond" and if you want a HIS or XFX it will cost you another 50 bucks.. So we can say that 699.99 is the average price 😉

616.00$

i dont care about the power it takes i dont care if it takes 5000watts just give me a psu to run it. only thing they could do is take out features and make the chip smaller. but give me the power dont hold back.

Is there a reason people feel the need to compare a $500 card to a $500,000 car? Seriously. Someone spending $500 on a video card can still be price conscious (Myself included). Those buying a $500,000 car? More than likely, not so much.

So yes, I definitely think that excessive power draw is a legit complaint. The card is more expensive to own over time, not to mention it puts off more heat. Efficiency is always good, even if only for the lower heat.

[citation][nom]meat81[/nom]So where were you going with this comment? And this one...[/citation]

The reason pricing on HD5XXX series was so high is because everyone was buying them and their 40nm production didn't yield enough. Supply and Demand.

The prices are still higher but not exactly like they could help it, unless they wanted to lose money.

[citation][nom]dman3k[/nom]All my GPUs are integrated by intel. I game on my PS3, which is nvidia. Yeah, I'm such a fanboy.[/citation]

Dude please. You don't even have a PC? You don't PC game? Then why do you care about Fermi at all? It's not even an option for you neither is any discrete GFX card. Maybe you got into console gaming b/c you didn't want to have to worry about this stuff. In that case why do you even care?

Why is the hexa-core CPU being used When its no good in gaming terms over a properly overclocked i7 930?? And i guess they will come paired with GTX 480's in SLI ( already sounding scary )and such a setup, i guess no one ever would turn on to do anything else but game.. As for future proofing, by the time games really start using all 4 cores properly, we'll be having DX 12 GPU requirements.. BTW are there tax exemption benefits for anyone ( buying such setups) paying power bills..!! And also, would they be shipping with fire extinguishers coz that'll be so cool........

Pretty sure ASUS cards carry 3-year warranties. Still, 3 years is nothing like XFX's double-lifetime. Being able to sell your item and give the new owner a full warranty is an immeasurable value. That's probably why their cards tend to cost more...

Having dealt with both for product support, I actually prefer ASUS. Serious problems with their products are quickly escalated to the top and solved. XFX's support is good, but slower to escalate and solve.

They are both arguably at the top end of thier class? Basically, if you are buying a top end, enthusiast graphics card, you could care less about excessive power draw or have taken the neccesary precautions to ensure a smooth installation. That is not to say that poor engineering shouldn't be scrutinized but, first look at the true intention of the design and ask if it accomplishes this goal. I wonder how many readers here would not have problem with this power draw if it wasn't for the PCI-e spec 300W limit? Back to the car analogy, you don't ask the Lambo salesman "what the MPG is" unless you have no intention of buying in the first place.

[citation][nom]icemunk[/nom]rip offs.. wait a couple days and get a 6 core AMD, with an ATI card for $1000 that'll keep up with those $3000 fermi boxes[/citation]

You really think a 6-core AMD with a 5970 would keep up with a 6-core Intel with 480 SLI? I don't see anything where a 5970 kept up with with a SLI solution like that. Also, console ports like BC2 increase framerate dramatically with a beefier CPU.

Then there's VMware, Photoshop, etc. Not sure what you are smoking. For the standard pile of PC games, yeah, not much difference but once stepping into productivity that AMD CPU doesn't hold a candle to the Intel.

You mean the heat that doesn't stay in your case but gets spit right out the exhaust ducts on the cards? You are aware we are talking about 6C difference from the 5970, if we want to start splitting hairs.

[citation][nom]meat81[/nom]Complaining about power draw is like complaining that a Lamborghini gets poor gas mileage....Performance always has its price. Get a bigger power supply...[/citation]
Sure, so you want EVERY ONE running a Fermi to have their own power plant?

Yes, but the 5970 is a Dual GPU card.

I still think that NVidia should have not waited to release Fermi cards. I would have been happy to be wrong but they should, at least, be more powerful and more efficient.

Just started reading,My ? is Do anyone in the posts Know anything about POWER I=E/R And why Does ANYONE need a $5K Computer old PT was Right.

Wow, I think making your own 6 core desktop along with all the new cards on both Ati and Nvidias front would still be at least $1000-2000 cheaper than these asking prices.... does it come with a monitor already AND a nice lighted keyboard?
