Hi all, im a first timer here but hopefully someone can help! I have just build myself a new system, got everything plugged in, hit the power button to find it is not booting. my system is:

- ASUS M3A78 PRO 780G Socket AM2+ onboard graphics 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard,
- AMD Phenom X4 9950 2.6GHz Black Edition Socket AM2+ 125W 4MB L2 Cache (512KBx4) Retail Boxed Processor,
- OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800Mhz/PC2-6400 GOLD XTC Memory Kit CL5(5-5-5-18)
- Xilence 420W Gaming PSU
- nVidia GeForce 9500GT 1GB PCI-E
- 500GB Hitachi SATA-2 P7K500 Hard Drive- 16MB

Basically when i hit the power button, the cpu fan turns about 5mm and the LED in the fan flashes then nothing. The LED on the motherboard is lit up when the PSU is turned on. I have tried 1 stick of RAM, re-sitting the CPU twice, unplugged all cables from MB and plugged back in, tried with no hdd or dvd drive connected, and still every time the same prob. a quick flash of power then nothing except the MB power LED. I have a feeling there may be a BIOs issue, however im not sure if the preloaded BIOs is what is needed for the processor or not. the MB revision number is 1.00g if this is any help.

I would really appreciate some help here! thanks

Hi,

Yeh i read that. I have read about some processors needing BIOs updates and i was trying to eliminate that step before taking it back out the case. I was hoping someone who is able to tell if the BIOs on the MB is right for the processor to eliminate that step. If the BIOs is ok then my next step is to take it back out the case and do the breadboard step. i just wish i looked on this forum to see the breadboard steps before i put the system in the case!

The BIOS on your motherboard should support the first gen Phenoms. They are pretty old. I doubt its your bios causing the problem. I would suspect the PSU.

thanks for the fast replys xthekidx,

I will try the breadboard step next then. 2moro morning ofc not now :) maybe its something shorting out the psu each time i turn it on? I will post my results, succesful or not, on here after the testing continues.
