PC not booting up, probably because of PSU and GPU?

Hello guys. I've recently bought a EVGA GTX 980, i5 4690k and a GIGABYTE H97 something(I know they're all compatible). A Tech friend hooked everything up and for some reason the PC is not booting. However, when he unplug the GPU and plug it to the integrated gpu it seems to work.

The thing is, we tried to make it work with my old GPU, an ATI Radeon 5750 and it also did not worked. Important to note, before purchasing those new parts the PC also had problems to boot: Sometimes it did, sometimes it did not(But the computer seemed to try to work, like, it seemed to boot up but nothing would show up on the screen), and we thought it was the motherboard. However, some days before my purchase arrived there was a strong storm and my computer simply stopped working. Like, it did not boot at all. After trying to press the buttons multiple times it worked but got stuck trying to boot with the problem before.

What do you guys think? The tech said that the PC tries to boot but does not and he doesn't have a similar or better psu to test. So I've to or try to find somebody willing to let me borrow his PSU or risk it and buy a new one. Could also be that both GPUs are having problems(Though the GTX 980 is totally new)

Oh! I forgot: I don't remember my PSU`s brand but it had 520w. The computer was also on 24hs per day because of the difficulty to boot it again. Thoughts?

That is possible though you would've probably heard or smelled something (literally) when it happened.

I don't think it's the GPU. It's one of two things. Your old PSU was at the edge of being able to support your system which was why it struggled to turn on, or your mobo has some faults with it. I hope it's your PSU for your sake.
I get your hesitation because who wants to drop $80 on something they don't need, but from your description of the problem and what you've tried, it just sounds like your PSU isn't powerful enough.

A 600w should do it.

Yeah, I risked it. Bought the PSU and left it at my friend's house, he's pretty busy but it should be ready monday. I just wish it works... Been having those difficulties for like almost two years and I really don't have the money to buy another GPU if that ends up being the problem. 🙁

My hesitation with the PSU is that my old GPU, the ATI, worked before(But now it also does not boot up). The weird thing about all of this is that the pc does boot up if the integrated gpu is the one connected. My tech friend did say my PC when connected to the GTX 980 ''inhibits'' itself after being powered on, something that I don't really understand. But, uhm, could the PSU fail to produce the normal quantity of watts it normally produces?
