[SOLVED] Pc not detecting my GPU?

Ok so basically my PC cannot detect my GPU for some reason. I have a gtx1050 and i use a vga to hdmi adapter because my monitor only has vga port. But somehow when i turn on my pc it doesnt detect my GPU. It says monitor goes to sleep.

When i plug in my vga to the onboard graphics, it still the same thing.

But this is the weird part, when i plug in my gt710 and gtx750 (which has vga ports), my monitor turns on normally but my pc wont detect it as Nvidia. It will detect is as onboard graphics. When i open dxdiag it says 0Mb VRAM. Games are out of the question.

What is the make/model of your motherboard?

Normally, a motherboard will detect a discrete graphics card is installed and will make that card the default for output. It is possible, that for some reason, your motherboard bios is set to direct output to the motherboard adapter ports.
Since you get output when a gt710 or gtx750 is installed, you are properly set up to use a discrete card.
If you install and run CPU-Z, it will identify your graphics card.
Any graphics card has a low res mode that will run without any driver software installed.
You would need to install the appropriate driver to get full resolution out of any of GT710 or GTX750 or GTX1050.

When you power on, with the GTX750,continuously hit DEL or F2 to enter the bios.
If the bios looks like simple text, you are in older legacy mode.
If it looks more like a windows screen, you are in uefi mode.
There should be a bios option to pick which.
Some GTX1050 cards will connect in legacy mode, but some will require UEFI, and some are ok with either. I think you want to set UEFI mode for the GTX1050.

Your objective is to be able to use the stronger GTX1050 card outputting signal to a vga monitor via a adapter.

What is the make/model of your adapter?
You stated it was vga to hdmi; Did you really mean hdmi to vga?
Possibly, the adapter is the issue.
Apparently, they are not all the same and some work better than others.

Did you correctly adjust the video output in your Bios ?

I have never once saw a UEFI/BIOS setting that allows you to adjust the display output port.

The fact the onboard (motherboard) HDMI output doesn't work and you have built in graphics, suggest converter is dead. If the dGPU was broken, the 2600 CPU onboard graphics would have taken over.

Your card may NOT have a VGA DAC as a cost saving measure

Is it possible you get a picture of the DVI connection on the video card (not motherboard DVI)? It will clue us in if there's VGA support because the pin out for DVI-D is different than DVI-A

It used to be more common than it is now.
Back in the day....the majority were this way.

I've seen where you select which graphics to initialize first (internal or external.)

But never the output port. In all honesty it shouldn't matter as all ports should have connection information and the display driver circuitry (which is proprietary to the GPU) handles the rest. Until the display driver dictates how to handle each display they either duplicated, or just used the highest display standard connection.

That said, SOME monitors have problems with timings when trying to get into BIOS or UEFI. I have this problem with my ASRock B450 ITX motherboards when passing through a matrix display switch and my TCL TV.
 
OK, this is something i should've mentioned before. I bought this pc a year and a few months ago. It's a prebuilt HP Pc. If I'm not mistaken its an HP COMPAQ 8200 PRO MICRO TOWER. It's a second hand computer which has not caused me problems until now. Therefore I would not know what model my motherboard or my psu is, unless someone would be kind enough to tell me how to find out. Ok now heres a story from yesterday and this morning.

Yesterday i brought my pc to a repair shop and i told him about 2 problems:
  1. PC is not displaying on the monitor
  2. The the processor and psu fan goes louder and louder
The guy was confident my gtx1050 was kaput, and he told me the fan was because of the paste on my processor has dried out. So he reapplied some new paste, tested it out using another gpu and it worked, at least at the store.

So i went home and tried to turn it on, guess what? Same problem. Monitor goes to sleep, no display nothing. Note, i bought a new hdmi to vga adapter and VGA cable.

What i tried that didnt work in order:
  1. VGA directly to onboard graphics
  2. VGA directly to GT710
  3. Adapter to GTX1050
  4. Adapter to GT710
  5. Adapter to GTX750 (at this point the processor fan and PSU fan got louder and louder just like yesterday, but i thought that was fixed??)

What worked for some reason:
  1. VGA directly to GT710
  2. VGA directly to onboard graphics
  3. VGA directly to GTX750
Note that this worked after hours of whining and sweating and other negative stuff. Ok, so that ends well yeah? What sucked is the gtx750 is a low profile gaming GPU so i figured why not try and plug in 1050 again? You never know!

So the next day, i tried again.

What i tried that didnt work IN ORDER the next morning:
  1. Adapter to GTX1050
  2. Adapter to GTX750
  3. VGA to Onboard Graphics
  4. VGA to GTX750
So what the F is the problem?? So i sat there whining again. Then i tried plugging in VGA to Onboard graphics. It turned on, and then it turned off. Then it restarted and then voila! The display is on!

So i connected my GTX750 with my VGA directly, the same thing, turned on for 3 seconds then off, then restarted and voila!

OK so anybody got an idea what's happening?
Oh and if you want to know about models and whatnot, tell me how to find it out. I havent much experience in dealing with these things :)

Edit: UEFI/BIOS - I could not find this option during the blue troubleshoot / advanced screen.
