Hello guys,
unfortunately, I have a few issues with my PC.
About a week ago, after finishing my work, I set my pc to standby (write state to ram).
Trying to turn it on again later yielded a black screen and the "RAM" debug-led being lit. Fans and hard-drives spin fine.
I can confirm though that the ram is not the issue. I tested it in a friends PC where it ran with no issues and passed memtest. Likewise, his working ram did not work in my PC either.
I tried reseating the ram, reset the CMOS and even switched the ram slots, but nothing helped.
...until yesterday. I desperately needed some files from one of the drives attached to my PC, so I tried turning it on again and, to my surprise, it actually turned on...
Like I said, I needed a folder from the pc. Not a very big one (10Gb), but ~100.000 files. To avoid any funny business with exFAT, I decided to zip this folder.
Halfway through the archival process, mouse and keyboard stop working completely. The leds on both just turned off. Furthermore, my screen just froze. It did not turn black - it just stopped refreshing. I also noticed, that the disk-IO led went completely dark.
My only option was to perform a hard shutdown.
After that, back to square one...
Not turning on.
I again tried clearing the CMOS, swapped ram-slots and even unplugged basically everything except for the M.2 drives... Nothing... All I'm getting is a lit "RAM" led and spinning fans.
This is not the first time I had this type of issue.
I previously "fixed" it by taking out one ram-stick and sticking the other one in an unoptimized slot. The mainboard warned me about this, but everything worked fine.
A new mainboard is on the way because I was sure it was the issue. Since yesterday I am not so sure anymore.
My PC basically froze on me, while zipping up the folder (i.e. hammering the CPU)
My CPU is quite power-hungry. The PSU still should have more than enough power, but still... It made me doubt my mainboard-decision a bit.
My hardware:
CPU: Core i9 10900k
Mainboard: MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 5 2x8Gb 3200Mhz (though probably 2133Mhz because clearing CMOS disabled XMP)
GPU: GTX 1050ti
PSU: Seasonic S12II 620W
OS: Manjaro (KDE Plasma)
M.2: Crucial P.3 1Tb
I can't say precisely how old the components are, but I would guess ~5 years with the exception of the GPU (7 years) and the M.2 (1 month)
I appreciate any input on this!
Best regards
