Question PC Performance terrible after new CPU upgrade

Old Specs:
Ryzen 5 2600 (Stock cooler)
GTX 1660 ti
TXM550
msi b450 ms 7b85
kingston nvme 1tb
DDR4-3200 (1600 MHz) 16gb ram

Point is all I did was upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800x and got a new cooler because it was overheating (PS 120 Evo) and my pc is running was worse than my old CPU and stock cooler.
Why? I updated my bios to fit the new CPU, got a new cooler because temps were too high and my pc is getting fps drops in desktop and is actually way worse than my old cpu? What did I do wrong? I checked compatibility in PC Part picker and there are no issues other than a bios update requirement.

It could be RAM that your new CPU doesn't like. Do you have some spare sticks you can use to test?

Is your EXPO set correctly? Or disabled after the upgrade?

the temps used to be 60~80c on idle and 91c when running games. I got a new cooler today and now the temps are fine, 40 ~ 60c even when running games and is now pretty cool. Which i thought would fix the issue but it didn't. I checked RAM compatibility and I have DDR4 with 3200 and i dont know what more I can check. Im so lost now. I haven't done anything in bios yet other then enable a-xmp because my msi bios looks different than most people.

edit: Phantom Spirit 120 EVO for the cooler

What I cannot physically wrap my head around is that this new generation cpu is actually making my pc perform EVEN worse than my old CPU. It's not thermal throttling because I checked temps and fixed it with a better cooler, I have 0 Issues with my PC before this new cpu upgrade. I was just greedy for faster video processing times and upgraded.

That's what trouble shooting is all about. You have a problem now you have to solve it. I highly doubt the problem is the new CPU. Maybe you missed a few things that's causing thermal throttling sound like a bad cooler installation. Back track your steps. Better yet start over.

the specific motherboard I know works properly with ryzen 3000, from here and on because they didn't come out more recently, so there are problems with the 5000 series and more specifically with the 5800x.
I would suggest you to remove any disks you have and leave only one on which to do a clean installation of windows to see what happens but before doing anything try the chipset drivers if you haven't installed them.

Need some specifics other than "my computer performs worse than before". I am not doubting you but being able to quantify "worse" would aid troubleshooting.

Without specifics, all I can advise is that if you have not done so update to the latest BIOS version, and, in addition, make sure that everything is set to factory defaults - that means disabling XMP, too.

Well, first off I'm experiencing fps drops in general when using any program, including search engines, games, workstations etc. my whole PC gets noticable fps drops. I didn't do a clean windows install and just slotted the new cpu thinking I can just use the old windows from my old CPU. Idk if this matters but, when I started my PC after the CPU change, it was stuck in bios and wouldn't go to windows. So I changed from uefi to csm and it just worked. Would that be a potential cause?

It's a clue. You definetly shouldn't be running csm with such new hardware.

Disable XMP/EXPO first.

If your BIOS is not up to date, update it to the latest non-beta version. Clear CMOS after the update and reset to BIOS defaults to remove any possible old conflicting settings.

Disable CSM if on, enable UEFI is off, Leave Secure Boot off or on whichever setting it's on, then do a clean Windows install. Totally clean, no repairs.
It's very likely you're trying to run the old OS with a major hardware change, and the system is only half able to work with the new CPU.

The other possibility is RAM. Ryzen being sensitive to RAM could mean your memory and CPU aren't working well togethe. That's why you should disable XMP and run the memory stock until you have a stable and working system. Only then try re-enabling XMP.

Ultimate possibility is a dud CPU, but that cannot be confirmed right now.
