PC Power Button Problem?

I recently replaced my motherboard and power supply because my last psu died and took the mb with it. Now when I press the power button my pc begins to start-up but then powers down and then resumes starting and powers up just fine and everything works. Is my pc case power button failing? Also, can I unplug the power button from the motherboard and attach the reset button to the power button prongs on the mb and use that as the start button or do I have to have a reset button attached to the mb? Thanks for any input

yes you can switch the switches and not have an issue i've done it my self when I had my old desk so the power button was closer to me than the reset. you can also try unplugging just the power switch and using a screw driver and touching the terminals together to see if it is the switch. it only takes a touch of the terminals to find out, no need to keep the screwdriver on the terminals.

edit: think about a how a car battery is for terminals. the switch for a PC is a metal bar that touches those two end together that's all. It just shorts the two terminals together to turn on and the same to turn off.

You can try that as both switches are a "momentary" switch (same function) if it makes a click or not. they just use different pins on the mobo.
