Hi!
So for some time now I have noticed that my PC restarts when it's under load, aka. playing games. It all started half a yeah ago but I downclocked GPU and it was fine. Few days ago I installed latest AMD drivers 2020 adrenaline edition and AMD software keep messing with MSI afterburner so it started to restart again under load. Today I installed old drivers and AMD software but now my PC is at a point where as soon as i start Forza Horizon 4 and the game goes to main menu it restarts. Now I think that it is most likely PSU and that it's going to fail soon. Could You please confirm that to me or tell me other possible solutions so I don't spend 100$ on PSU and then to turn out that it wasn't PSUs fault?!
Thank You!

P.S. CPU and MOBO are less then a year old, GPU is R9 290 so it uses a lot of energy but it still has some graphic power. PSU is almost 5 years old.
And do You think 750W PSU would be enough for i5 8400, R9 290, 2 HHDs, M.2 SSD, 1 RAM DDR4, 4 fans and a water pump + periphery(mouse, headset, keyboard ...) GPU is usually not overclocked.

Run something like prime 95 and heaven to test your gpu and cpu. If one crashes and the other doesn't. It could narrow the problem down a bit. If I had to guess based on the information provided, it is some kind of driver issue. Or perhapse a directX issue.

The PSU is Thermaltake Smart M850W 80 plus bronze. First i had a 600w PSU but PC was running just 30 min and then it would restart and then I got that one and it was fine until "now". Temps are fine I am changing termal paste one or two times per year but to be 100% sure I'll do some tests in cinebench for now and I'll give You all results.

Edit: GPU is Sapphire tri-x r9 290, i5 8400, kingston hyperx fury 8GB 2400MHz, seagate baracuda HHDs, WD m.2 and that would be it.

PSU is decent it is basically a corsair TXM but with bronze efficiency , however you have been using it for 5 years which is over its warranty period by 2 years , How is the PSU fan fairing up ? is it still working properly ?

check the thermals of your system first during load

CPU test on cinebench went fine, after 2 runs max. CPU temp. was 56C. Then i downloaded Heaven, it ran for half a second and then PC restarted. It's not overheating, although I have 3 fans on my GPU and one i not working if they are not spinning more then 4000 RPM, it's located on the right over the power manegment of the GPU, but i'm not sure that would make PC restart or?

Well the fan is working i think just fine, every time i look at it it works, it's hard to check if i do GPU test because it restarts as soon as it gets under load, probably because GPU sucks 300W (lol) and if it is PSU fault it can't handle that, i guess, don't know

I could check for viruses tomorrow, but i think that is unlikely.

check your event viewer for more info about the crash

also since your graphics card is rated at 275w , i would recommend to use connectors from two PCI e Cables and not the daisy chained connectors from the same cable

Checked it and I also have Kernel-Power EventID 41 events. I guess it's time to get new PSU then? I found
Gigabyte 750W G750H for 97$, should I get it or should I go for Corsair or Seasonic? (it's brand new btw not used)

I am using two PCIe cables, i thought it is better, cleaner power to gpu (in my mind) hahaha
Thank you for helping btw, this forum is full of nice people 😀

Temporary solution!
Update on my situation. Today I tried to make my PC stable at least when I play games and after few hours of playing with MSI afterburner I couldn't get it to be stable in heaven benchmark (it ran for 1-2 min and then crash at it's best), but in Forza Horizon 4 it was stable and didn't restart after 15 min of playing (don't have time for more now). So my conclusion is that PSU is dying and it can't supply GPU with enough voltage and that's why it's restarting when GPU is under load. In MSI I lowered GPU clock and memory clock, but the most important thing was to lower core voltage and power limit (in my case core voltage lowered for 37mV and power limit for 25%). Now that is just temporary solution, the real solution is to buy new PSU and I'll do that very soon.

Hope that this will help someone!
PS. Would like to thank Mezinix for giving me ideas and helping me with good advice.

for that money i would get a corsair RMX 650 much better performing and higher quality unit with 10 years warranty
https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-RM650x-Certified-Modular-Supply/dp/B079H6111J

but to tell you the truth i am not completely certain that the PSU is causing your issue here

i would test your gpu on a different system to make sure
It's better yeah, but shipping and import fees to my country are almost as expensive as PSU lol. But thank you anyway, found Seasonic CORE GM-650 Gold for 97$ with shipping and 7 years warranty, probably gonna get that.
