Question PC screen turns black and the fans ramp up to full power ?

Since some time now I've got the issue that my PC screen turns black and the fans will blow full power.
I need to hold power button to turn the computer off.

It wasn't that big of a deal since it didn't happen that often, but I just tried to work on my PC and it happened 3 times in a row within a couple of minutes.

Anybody an idea where to start checking or what to do as a first step?

their CX series have never been very high quality.
some mediocre intended for lower level use,
some just poor quality altogether.

it's very likely that this PSU just can't properly handle the power draw.
i would replace this unit with something better.

even if it didn't turn out being the culprit for this specific problem, i would rather know i had something better installed.

Anybody an idea where to start checking or what to do as a first step?

you can start by just trying a higher quality power supply yourself
or having a local shop go through some troubleshooting with on-hand hardware of their own.

The fact that the fans run at maximum would indicate to me that they are responding to a temperature problem.

Ah, but you're leaving out the black screen that occurs alongside the 100% gpu fans symptom. This combination has generally been power related.
