Question PC shutdowns itself after playing games..

Hello,

I've bought 3080 two days ago, I noticed that my PC completely shuts down after playing any game for more than half an hour but the RAM lights keep working. I am using it with Seasonic 650W 80+PLUS PSU and a Ryzen 3600 processor, RAM 3200 X-AMP


I'm watching the temperature. The processor does not exceed 60 and the card does not exceed 72!
So where is the problem? Is it because the card can't get enough power from the PSU, or the motherboard is the reason cuz it's since 1st Ryzen Gen? In addition, I changed the RAM but the problem still exists, so it will be between the motherboard or is the PSU weaker than the capabilities of the GPU?

What exact psu? Although it’s unlikely an 80+ model is adequate quality to run a 3080.

I think it's possible.
That's a 320 watt GPU.
Nvidia recommends a minimum 750 watt PSU.
Even though Nvidia tends to recommend high imo....I wouldn't be running 100 watts lower than their minimum recommendation.
...and the fact that the problem seemed to start when you added the GPU.

a 650 altho high quality isn't really the best option to power up a 3080. Transient spikes are a thing, and those are most likely triggering the psu ocp and you have the shut downs. I would honestly upgrade it to a 750 even because nvidia itself suggest a 750 w psu to run a 3080 safely.

That's a 320 watt GPU.

I would sleep soundly, it will 98% get fixed. Especially if you stayed with seasonic. It's one of the best psu oem.

What exact psu did you get? Not surprised you had issues, I have read it’s not uncommon with the Focus series.

I would sleep soundly, it will 98% get fixed. Especially if you stayed with seasonic. It's one of the best psu oem.

From what I have read the Seasonic Focus range don’t do well with the 3080 or above cards.

I think that if you use a quality 850 watt PSU...that your problem will likely go away.

In the situation you described....which I've come across many times...the vast majority of the time.....it was the PSU.

The main other reason would be temps.....and yours seem fine.

I have plenty of friends running seasonic gold with their 3000 series card and they never had issue. I guess it's all about the date of manufacturing. I heard model prior 2018 might have issues, but again my anedoctal evidence says the opposite. So...

It’s another Focus. From what I have read the Focus range should be avoided with a 3080 or above.

That's all for models manufactured pre 2018. I hardly believe this dude purchased a model made pre jan 2018 given that that was more than 3 years ago.

Yes. GX model from what i read is from Aug2019, and my old one was manufactured in 2016 .. Let's see what happens when it arrives 🙄

I hadn’t seen a time frame for those affected, if the case then that’s good to know.

I have a 2019 Seasonic GX 850 that I’m using with a 5950X and Gigabyte 3080 TI with no issues. You should be good to go.
