Hi guys my pc is shutting down suddenly while gaming yesterday it was fine and now when i play cs go (min setting) after 5 mins of playing BAM shut down like someone pulled the cable off the psu please help me
specs :g3220 @3.0GHz
Ati radeon 5850
4gb ddr3 ram
1 sata drive
and 1 dvd/rw combo drive

Solution

If the problem is the power supply having trouble keeping up with heavy load, one thing you might be able to try is underclock the CPU and GPU to reduce the load. Depending on how far gone the output capacitors might be though, this may still not be enough.

Combining PSUs is doable and some people have done exactly that. As FRet said though, this may cause some additional trouble. The first issue is power sequencing: some hardware does not appreciate the 12V rail coming up much sooner or later than the other rails. The second issue is that if the "main PSU"...
Hi the problem your are experiencing can be very problematic to pin point and solve, for instance it could be many factors e.g. bad ram, bad psu etc

However a more simple solution maybe to check all power connections to the motherboard, the 24 pin, the 8 pin etc and make sure the connections are pushed in properly - This was a problem for me and I too was experiencing random crashes and shutdown but the solution solved it.

If the above don't work try to check for ram faults do a cycle of memtest86 if the test reports any errors it may be your ram fault.

If the above 2 solutions do not work, then maybe it is the power supply fault.

Go to "Computer Management", and then "Event Viewer". If you see lots of logs like "kernel-power error 41", most likely your PSU is to blame. What is your current PSU?

***EDIT*** MarkW is right. Always list your PSU, especially for power errors.

'kernel-power error 41' simply means 'Unexpected shutdown'. It does not indicate why this happened.

every connection is properly pushes in i double checked my psu is Antec 400P 400W Psu 80+ certified when i surf the web is fine but when i start doing gaming it goes ham and i get very angry i am currently downloading memtest to see if there is anything wrong with the ram

I am well aware of that. I am asking because it generally hints that power is not properly supplied due to faulty components, etc. My next question would be to ask how regularly does this occur.

And I am trying to find out out why it happened, hence the question :) Logs are extremely helpful.

well, suggesting "most likely your PSU is to blame" is not related to the error 41. It might be the PSU, it might be something else.

Moving on....let's find out more info.

I went to event viewer and i saw the kernel-power error what other info i can give you so we can resolve my problem thanks you for helping me

In my experience it is generally PSU or mobo. If the motherboard is the newer component, that may be to blame, especially if it was added to the build very recently.

You are correct though, kernel-power can mean many things. Anyway, yes, let's not get bogged down on what MAY be causing the problem, but I am only suggesting a possible solution.

No problem. Can you test with another PSU ? What is your current PSU ?

I do have a dell psu from an old pc it's a 350 watt psu i tested the mobo with the mobo is booting and working normally

Since OP said he has an "Antec 400P" which has 80+ certification, I'm guessing that means SmartPower.

Between the ~5A for the CPU, 12-15A for the GPU, 1-2A for fans and 2-3A for other stuff like HDDs, the PSU probably ends up close to 100% peak load on its 25A (10+15) 12V rail while gaming.

Sounds like a typical case of accelerated PSU aging from running it at close to 100% of its rating.

So what can i do to fix the problem or like temporary gaming or something for the time i buy a new psu. can i like combine both psu and like split the power between the two

No, you can't do that.
Well, you can, but it is FAR more hassle than you might think.

What is your timeline for getting a new PSU?

1 or maybe 2 weeks im not sure

If the problem is the power supply having trouble keeping up with heavy load, one thing you might be able to try is underclock the CPU and GPU to reduce the load. Depending on how far gone the output capacitors might be though, this may still not be enough.

Combining PSUs is doable and some people have done exactly that. As FRet said though, this may cause some additional trouble. The first issue is power sequencing: some hardware does not appreciate the 12V rail coming up much sooner or later than the other rails. The second issue is that if the "main PSU" and "extra PSU" have their 12V rails shorted together through components, whichever PSU has the highest 12V voltage will end up providing most of the current. Yet another potential issue is that paralleled outputs may destabilize one or both power supplies' feedback loops since normal power supplies are not designed to expect external power on their outputs. There are too many variables to recommend this option with any degree of confidence.

Solution

I haven't thought of undeclocking how much should i underclock i dont need my games to be on max quality just i want them to run without shut down. I got in the bios and turned power saving settings and C-State idk what thank you all for helping me.

"how much" ? Until it doesn't do that anymore.

Yes, indeed he solved my problem :) and i thank him for that i underclocked my CPU from 3@GHz to 2GHz and i think it works i will now choose his answer as the solution thank you all for the help. <3

Some of the ideas you have had like pairing up 2 power supplies to try and get through to the time when you can get a new power supply is likely to result in additional damage to your hardware.

I would also recommend that you get a high quality power supply this time. They tend to last much longer than the cheap power supplies, and they have much better protection for your system built into them. I am going to list a couple of high quality power supplies. Hopefully you can get one of these.
