Hi. So, my pc just started crashing randomly when in the loading screen of some games or in the middle of a game. It's not consistent. Some time it happens on some games, sometimes it doesn't. For example, I open BALDURS GATE 3. It's fine in the menu. When I start any save file. It loads till 100% and then crashes. I played COD:MW 2019, no crash at all. I played SNIPER ELITE 4, no crashes. I play commandos origins, it's fine. But in the middle when it started loading after death, it crashed.
Tested these 4 games in 3 seperate physical drives. I have an m.2 nvme ssd, a 480gb sata ssd and a 2tb hdd. These games behaves the exact same way in any of these drives.
My guess is, it's probably the PSU. Here's what I did in order to figure out what's going on-

1. I ran gpu stress test in furmark for approximately 30 mins. No crashing. Gpu temps goes high but it's stable. No thermal throttling spotted.
2. Ran cpu stress test from inside furmark. No crash. No anomaly.
3. Ran memtest. All 4 passes with 0 errors.
4. Ran cpu stress and gpu stress test in furmark at the same time. No crashing for 5 mins. But the moment I tried opening task manager, it crashed. I did it again later. But no crash.
5. Ran crystal disk mark. No crashing.
6. Checked crystal disk info. No errors or warnings. Health showed "good".
7. Altered the games locations in other drives as mentioned above. No changes in behaviour.
8. Disconnected all the peripherals except for monitor and keyboard. Still crashed.
9. Disabled xmp in bios, no changes.
10. For this last test, I had a spare 450w psu from a previous build. I split the powers between two psus. Atx connectors and the connectors for the sata drives are from the spare psu. The gpu and the rest of the connectors are still from the existing PSU. In this scenario, no crashes. I wanted to alternate the gpu and atx but the old psu has no connectors for the gpu.

So is this an issue of a faulty psu? Or am I missing something? Is there any other test that I can do?
I don't have any other spare parts available that I can swap out and try. Please help me out.

PSU: antec v550 plus
This thing?
Official specs: https://www.antec.com/product/power/vp550-plus

If so, it is crap quality PSU and replace ASAP.

Since PSU powers everything, it is the most important component inside the PC.
Hence why NEVER cheap out on PSU! Also, never buy used PSU either.

For 2nd opinion about your PSU, look it up from PSU Tier list,
link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...aSpZRB6Xt6JWkc/htmlview?pli=1&gid=1973454078#

You'll find it to be Tier E.
While for new PSU, i suggest anything from Tier A, like: Seasonic Focus/Vertex/PRIME, Corsair RMx/RMi/HXi/AXi, Super Flower Leadex Gold/Platinum/Titanium.
550W unit does fine. 650W unit doesn't hurt either.

(My 3x PCs are also powered by Seasonic. I have PRIME 650 Titanium (Tier A+), PRIME Ultra 650 Titanium (Tier A+) and Focus PX-550 unit (Tier A). Full specs with pics in my sig.)

Reducing load on your Antec stabilizes the PSU, so that it won't crash the GPU. Still, new PSU is a must.

Now i wonder, your spare 450W PSU make and model (or part number) is? Also, how old the PSU is, and was the PSU bought new or used/refurbished?

Antec one was bought about 5 years ago. The other one was about 3-4 years older than this. Both of them were bought new. Not used. The old 450w psu has it's label ripped. It's a very cheap one and not reliable at all. I kept it just in case i needed it for something. I don't remember the brand.
The antec one I had to cheap out as other PSUs were quite pricy at the time and this was the best I could afford then. Still this one felt better than the existing one.
I'm not planning on using two psu. It was just for testing.

So is it the fault of the psu for sure then?
If so then I'm going to get a better one this time.

Well, it is quite likely since the 10th test you did, confirmed as much.

No point to keep bad PSU around to power something. Since chances that it goes "pop" and fries everything it is connected to - is high. Same with your Antec unit since it is such a poor quality.
