When I've found the time to finish putting my new PC together (if only
customers would give me money just for being a nice chap instead of
expecting me to do work for them), I intend to take the old one to the
Netherlands. We go there to the MIL's house for holidays.

The problem is that the NL domestic mains system has no earth connection
in the sockets, except in the kitchen and the garage. I don't want to
have to install extra wiring upstairs, so there are two options:
a) ignore the fact there is no earth, and just plug the PC in as it is
b) buy a local PSU and install it in place of the UK one.

Is a) a viable option? Local PCs will not be earthed, so is the design
different in countries that have unearthed sockets??

Excuse me for my ignorance but what is an earth connection? Are you talking
about the difference between grounded and ungrounded electrical outlets?

You should be able to locate some type of power connection version
kit/cables/adapters.

OOPS! Make that power connection conversion instead!

Yes, 'earth' is the right-pondian term for 'ground' in this context.

If the PSU is settable for (or auto) 115/230V , set at 230V and plug in (of
course the plug has to be right)
In Finland our wiring in older houses are the asme, ie. grounded in "wet"
wet areas, ungrounded elsewhere (>2m from wet area)
(New houses aree usually all grounded outlets..)

Though not rcommendable to run the computer from ungrounded sockets, it
won't harm them, until the unexpected happens..
YOU get a kick when, for example, you connect a antenna cable (assumes
central antenna wiring) first to the wall, then to the computer's TVtuner.
Same thing with network cable..
