Hello there,

I just assembled my first PC and it boots but then turns off after a bit. The first time I booted it, I got it into the USB Windows boot and formatted the Recovery partition while trying to install, it worked but then it turned off randomly. I’m not sure if this is happening because I did that.

Now it won’t let me into bios or select another boot disk, because it freezes and turns off.

I was able to get into BIOS once but the CPU temp was reaching 100C and I couldn’t understand why so I quickly turned it off.

The SSD is from another older PC and it boots to that somehow but turns off after a bit and the motherboard shows VGA and DRAM and sometimes red BOOT LEDs, which then disappear. I tried switching the RAM sticks and I tried to remove the SSD, but if I do it lets me choose the boot disk and then it turns off. The buttons on the motherboard have lights that stay on even after the PC turns off so this makes me think it’s not a PSU problem. The screen on the cooler shows about 40 to 70 degrees C.

Edit: I’m starting to understand a bit what’s happening. I tried turning it on after hours so it was all cool, and it works, I got into bios. The problem is that the CPU quickly rises to 100 degrees, in barely a minute, in just the bios. I tried reseating the cooler and reapply thermal paste but nothing changed. I’m starting to question if the pump is actually working, because even at max speed I can’t feel any water flowing in the tubes and the radiator is cold.

Specs:
MB: NZXT N7 Z790 (used from Amazon)
CPU: I9-14900K
GPU: RTX 4060
RAM: 32GB DDR5
PSU: Corsair 850W
Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 360 (used from Amazon)

AIO coolers do not last forever.
Pumps get clogged or the motor fails,
Air permeates the tubes and the unit needs to be replaced.
5 years is about how long they last.

I would return the nzxt aio to amazon and replace with a good dual tower air cooler.

Check the bios level of the motherboard.
If it is not current, that is the first thing to change.
14th gen processors can be damaged by excessive voltage, and a current bios will protect against that.

I’m also thinking there’s a problem with the AIO. I bought it used from Amazon. Is there any way I can check if it’s actually working? Bios says it’s going at 4000rpm but I’ve read that it can say that even if it’s off.

Does Amazon take returns on used parts?
It should if it is advertised as working.

If you mounted the system incorrectly, that could be your issue.
For instance if the pump is the highest component in the system, there is where air bubbles will accumulate.

it can happen if the cpu fan not spinning, or electrical shorts inside your computer. the motherboard have to checked with a multimeter you might change an ac or something.. it cost a little, dont try to run pc again, it can do more damage.
